How long does your GLOCK warrantee last? 23+ years!
How long does your GLOCK warrantee last? 23+ years!
I bought a GLOCK model 21, new, in 1992. While at the range last month adjusting new sights, it fired twice with one trigger pull. I continued slowly firing, and it did it again. I then only loaded 2 rounds, pulled trigger and held it back, firing one round. When I let the trigger move forward to reset, it fired again. This pistol was no longer safe to fire.
I called GLOCK in Smyrna, GA., and talked to them about the problem. They said to send them the pistol, and they would likely replace the internal parts.
I got an email from them asking permission to issue a “replacement frame”. They asked if it was OK because the new frame would have a different serial number. I said yes.
Basically, I got a completely new gun, but with my original barrel and slide, in the mail yesterday! My original pistol had a Gen 2 frame, now it has a Gen 3 frame with accessory rail.
They even replaced the firing pin and all internal parts in the slide, and replaced my 2 well-worn magazines with 2 new ones!
GLOCK has outstanding Customer service! The warrantee on your GLOCK pistol is good for OVER 23 years!
Thank you GLOCK!

Thumbs up!
I just had them install two sets of night sights on my glocks and turnaround time/service/packaging was outstanding. Can't beat the price of $57 plus tax installed per slide.

I have heard that if you stop by their headquarters, they'd check out your Glock and replace anything needing to be replaced right then and there at no charge... Glock is awesome in my opinion.

And that right there is the kind of stuff that keeps a company in business. Pity more don't put that lesson to use.

If you attend any GSSF event (Glock Sport Shooting Foundation), there is usually a Glock armorer present that will warranty replace any failed/failing/worn internal parts on-site, even if you're just a spectator.

Re: How long does your GLOCK warrantee last? 23+ years!
I sent back an early Gen 2 19, with somewhere between 15,000 and 20,000 rounds through it, just a couple of years ago. I figured something had to be worn, espcially as I used to buy cases of Wolf when they were $3.99 a box of 50 (not that long ago...just pre-Obama) and figured they'd check it over. Returned with all new internals.
Which, if you figure labor time vs internal parts, makes sense just to replace them all.
OP: Did they recontour your slide at the round pick up tab (whatever that is called)...the early 21s would't feed the old flying ashtray 200 gr Speer rounds. Instead of being a constant angle, they put a little contour into it.

I thought I posted a reply here, guess i never hit submit.
Anyway, I thought pulling the GLock trigger pulls the striker back the last bit and then releases it. So if the gun went off letting the trigger forward, then what pulled the striker back?

That's a good question.A_F wrote:I thought I posted a reply here, guess i never hit submit.

When a glock fires and the slide cycles back, the disconnector releases the sear into an upward position. As the slide moves forward, the sear catches the firing pin and holds it completely back as the slide continues forward into battery position if the trigger is being held back. It is the firing pin spring that pushes the trigger forward until it is reset. When the trigger is fully forward, the firing pin is only "half cocked" position.
My guess is that a worn sear might let the firing pin slip as the trigger is moving forward causing the surprise second shot.

In the Glock, the drop safety is a wing on the trigger bar near the sear that rides along a ramp in the frame. This keeps the sear from dropping unless the trigger is fully pressed.Klingon00 wrote:That's a good question.A_F wrote:I thought I posted a reply here, guess i never hit submit.

Since the ramp for the drop safety is in the frame, if that were worn, it would explain why they wanted to replace the frame.
And since the firing pin block safety should engage as the trigger moves forward, as should the drop safety, the problem could also be a worn/bent sear or a worn nose on the striker.
With any one or any combination of these 3 issues, after firing a round and still having the trigger pressed, the slightest movement could then cause the fully cocked striker to slip and fire before the safeties re-engage. Even releasing the pressure on the trigger might be enough.

Re: How long does your GLOCK warrantee last? 23+ years!
Its stories like these which make me recommend Glocks (usually the 19) to folks who are looking to acquire a handgun and are ready to start trying some out. I've probably helped sell close to a dozen of them over the years.
The funny thing is... I don't own a Glock.
I can shoot 'em, just don't like the feel of them in my hand. I prefer my XDm for my "service size" option, though I find the higher bore axis to be off-putting to new shooters.

You can do that without a problem.
Say you wanted to upgrade your Gen2 to a Gen3 frame.
You can pay for the frame switch, used to cost $150. You don't get the original frame back, and you don't have matching serial numbers, top and bottom.

Re: How long does your GLOCK warrantee last? 23+ years!
It's my understanding that when the trigger is pressed, all the safeties are disengaged, including the drop safety shelf since the sear wouldn't be in position be affected by the shelf. At the point where the slide has cycled but the trigger is held back, the only thing holding the firing pin lug from striking the primer is the sear surface itself, right? If the sear were incapable of holding the firing pin lug, the gun would go full auto at that point.MyWifeSaidYes wrote: In the Glock, the drop safety is a wing on the trigger bar near the sear that rides along a ramp in the frame. Your point about the drop safety wear is probably a good bet as it sounds as if the firing pin didn't slip until the trigger was moving forward which matches nicely with the account of events and the fact that Glock wanted to replace the frame.
