The forums have been hosted for some time now out of my pocket. We are coming up on the annual domain renewal for ohioccwforums.org and I pay roughly $20/month to keep the forums online. I do this to maintain the long-standing history of discussions here indexed in Google, and so that people have a place to discuss this topic outside of modern social media censorship. I can buy a car without a license or a background check. I need a license to prove that I will not do harm(or so they say).
At one time in most states if your vehicle was a farm item, then you did not need a license to operate it, even on the road. You still do not need a license to drive a tractor on the road (the last time I checked).
It seems that it all boils down to money (tax).

I'm all for freedom..Just tell me how you keep it with a bunch of un-trained Patriots ?
You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink it. Just like having mandatory classes for men not to rape will not stop rape, all the classes in the world do nothing if the student chooses not to follow what they've been taught.
Forcing people to take training is a feel good measure that harms freedom and has no affect on those who willingly choose to ignore it. Those who are responsible will seek out training on their own accord without the force of law. Most people are responsible, those that aren't tend to end up in jail, or dead.
It's not as if misuse of a firearm, like any potentially dangerous tool doesn't still have it's consequences, both legal as well as natural.
Since there are many others out there that share Carmen's feelings, I just want to say that I am not picking on Carmen. He's just their voice in this discussion.
If we do not work STRENUOUSLY to get rid of the training requirement, here is what MIGHT happen...
More and more instructors are found to be shortcutting their classes.
More instructors have negligent discharges in their classes, injuring students or themselves.
The anti-gunners push for more state oversight of training.
Additional state oversight does not change things, so the state decides to take over training completely.
The state now gets ALL the training money from CHL classes.
The state gives itself the power to adjust training requirements as needed.
The state now enjoys the freedom of taking your money and NOT passing a large percent of people who IT thinks shouldn't carry concealed firearms.
We are back to a 'may-issue' CHL system.
Carmen is happy.
A whole lot of {expletive} off people start open carrying, but at least they got training.
Those {expletive} off people tell everybody they know to NOT get a CHL but just open carry instead.
Read this with a sense of humor or a sense of dread. Either way, it's probably not going to happen...
...but someone needs to smack the camel on the nose with a 2x4 and remove the training requirement.
Carmen, I think at one time that you might be thinking of in early american history IE Colonies in 1700's and The States in 1800's.. I think that many young people would have been trained by their fathers, mothers, aunts, uncles older siblings or whomever was their role model but I would imagine life being different back then a society of farmers..
I am not against training, I definitely think people should absolutely should get it and should be encouraged to get training.. I just can't see requiring it.
What if my uncle who is a LEO took me to the range and taught me and explained things... Then I read the OAG handbook ? Is this training unacceptable ? It would be now, I think people will find adequate training, with out being forced to do so.
I think were at the point were we have to agree to disagree, with the greatest amount of respect of course.

MWSY,
Nah. Oxford comma only needed for strings of three or more items. With two items there is no comma needed just the separator.

As I remeber from tlaking to farmers when I was much younger, when they bought the truck, they declared that it was to be used as a farm item. They paid a one-time fee for a farm tag. This is the best I can remember.

I totally agree with that statement.
But, I should have the freedom of not having my tax dollars supplement "others" poor lifestyle choices.
Like eating a fried bologna sandwich at the gun show, which contributes to them being grossly obese, when they don't even have health insurance.
Not sure where you're going with that
Sounds like you're saying that government funded health insurance is justification for requiring training and licenses,,,,
