Hello from Summit County
Hello everyone. I'll be applying for CCW in Summit County. Anyone go through the process with the Summit County Sheriff's office? How long did it take to get the permit? Thanks!

Welcome! Don't know the specifics of Summit but remember you can also go to any county directly adjacent to the one you live in.

Re: Hello from Summit County
Welcome fellow Summit County resident. I got my CHL from Wayne County as well as the first renewal. In fact, I have an appointment there tomorrow for my 2nd renewal. They are friendly and very efficient.

I second Wayne County - though I have heard that Summit is better these days than it has been - seems there's a new Sheriff in town or some such...

Re: Hello from Summit County
Thanks for the responses. I know that I can go to an adjoining county, but in Summit I don't need an appointment. Hopefully there isn't a 7.5 hour line each of the 2 days per week they accept applications. My NRA/CCW instructor said I'll be his first student to apply in Summit, so I guess I'm testing the water for him too. I still plan on applying in Summit county and I will report back my experiences.

Update:
My experience at the Summint County Jail(Sheriff) was very positive. I dropped my application and payment off on Monday, and I received a call my permit was ready on Friday morning. 4 business day turnaround.

Re: Hello from Summit County
I'm also in Summit County. Have had my CHL since they were first issue in 2003. I carry everywhere except work because it's prohibited by statute (I work at a mental health agency).
I have CHL's in several states (I travel for work and pleasure a lot). I used to a have CHL issued by NYPD in the mid 1980's when I lived there and before they became impossible to get. Unfortunately after Guiliani (and surprisingly not Bloomberg) took office they changed the rules, stopped issuing CHL to out of city residents, and wouldn't renew my license.
