Between noon and 8 p.m. today, we are holding a phone bank to help the Cleveland Police Foundation raise money for the Foundation's handgun buyback event set for Saturday, September 6. The phone bank phone number is 800-658-5370.

At the handgun buyback event, people can exchange guns for gift cards, no questions asked. The guns are tagged and checked and eventually melted down.

Im crazy interested in finding out what the total cash donations end up being. Lets see exactly what the public support is going to be for this buy back.

I wonder how many gang bangers turned in their gats for a $50 Giant Eagle gift card... We should call the number and ask...

I am curious about that also. I doubt they would ever tell. However the public money spent should be available (I would think) and I am sure they will brag about how many guns they conf... er bought back. Put the pencil to that and you should have the answer.

200 bucks for a semi auto rifle isnt bad. I know some of the Savages can be had at FFF for a bit less than that at times. Could be a great money maker, in volume.

I wonder if there is a limit on how many firearms a person can sell them?

I believe there is. I recall reading that one of the recent "buy back" programs running out of money while people still had guns to turn in.

I haven't seen any specifics on what dollar amounts of gift cards will be given out.
