I remember the instructor at my NRA pistol class saying to keep a copy of the course certificate as I would need it at renewal.
Au Contrare, the lovely clerk at the Sheriff's Office never asked for it.
Gave my old CHL the ounce-over, checked her computer for felonies, took my picture and prints. Zip. Out in five minutes.

I guess they figured if its a renewal, you already had the course. It was quite a pleasant experience renewing at allen county sheriffs dept. They were very friendly and helpfull. I got off work early one day, a rare event, and I called to see if it was done. They had to finish it. They said I could pick it up in a half hour. I did. Really, a great experience. I tried to post in my old thread about it, but it looks like my old id never existed.

The law changed twice between your original license and your renewal. For the first change, the law stated that your old CHL served as proof that you once had training. Then the law was changed to not require any training for renewals at all. Your instructor (probably) was not an idiot.

RC 2923.125 (F)(1) A licensee who wishes to renew a concealed handgun license issued under this section shall do so not earlier than ninety days before the expiration date of the license or at any time after the expiration date of the license by filing with the sheriff of the county in which the applicant resides or with the sheriff of an adjacent county an application for renewal of the license obtained pursuant to division (D) of this section, a certification by the applicant that, subsequent to the issuance of the license, the applicant has reread the pamphlet prepared by the Ohio peace officer training commission pursuant to section 109.731 of the Revised Code that reviews firearms, dispute resolution, and use of deadly force matters, and a nonrefundable license renewal fee in an amount determined pursuant to division (F)(4) of this section unless the fee is waived.
