I'm not a hunter, and I was disappointed with the suppressed handgun I saw a few years ago. Having said that, I am pleased with any enhanced gun rights for Ohioans.
I was at my state rep's fund raiser this evening, and I thanked her for voting for this proposal.

That one shouldn't get much opposition from either side of the aisle in the Legislature, or the Governor's office.

What handgun did you see suppressed? And what suppressor?Tweed Ring wrote:I'm not a hunter, and I was disappointed with the suppressed handgun I saw a few years ago. Having said that, I am pleased with any enhanced gun rights for Ohioans.

Lately I have as much dread as optimism when the news reports that "The bill will now go to the Ohio Senate for consideration." Things move way too slowly there.
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

Another instructor and I were training a CHL class. It as a 9 mm Sig, if memory serves, and the other instructor had just received the suppressor he had ordered. We were at the smaller indoor range at Black Wing. Even with ear protection, the report was quite loud, to me.Mindbender14 wrote:What handgun did you see suppressed? The only thing I previously knew about suppressors was what I had viewed from TV & movies, specifically certain scenes in "Casino" and "Goodfellas" and a few comments from some hard guys at the grey bar hotel.
There was a presentation on suppressors for members of the OGA earlier this year at Black Wing done by BFA and others.
Like I said, I really don't have a dog in this fight, but I am pleased to support any enhancement of gun rights for Ohioans.

I don't hunt, nor have I ever personally seen or fondled a suppressor before, so I'm no expert by any means, but I have heard the story told that a suppressor does nothing more than remove that sharp, stinging bite of the report and that I too would be disappointed in finding out the real life fact is that it's nothing like the movies... Oh well... Still a great advancement for the hunters.
Unarmed people are vulnerable people, and criminal predators prey upon them.

Suppressors do not sound like the movies, except probably a .22 can on the right gun. I have a Cricket that I suppressed, which is ridiculously quiet. On an indoor range, you aren't gonna get the full effect of what it can do, as the sound it does make is gonna be magnified by being indoors. Even on a little 22 can, its much louder indoors than out.
I was testing a 308 can the other day, and while obviously not as quiet as tv (with my subsonic loads is quieter than tv would have you believe), I was very impressed by the noise reduction compared to other 308 cans I have used in the past.

Re: HB234 Supressors for hunting passed the house
I think the bill was poorly written as I interpret it in that the hunter has to been the person holding the tax stamp. But getting it passed allows for positive changes down the road. The real benefit of suppressed firearms as I see it is with the apprentice hunter. I just don’t see the new hunter shelling out the $$$ to suppress their first hunting rifle.
