First IDPA macth as PCSI Saturday, who's going?
65 people including myself are signed up. Any one else here going?
This will be my first ever IPDA match. Really looking forward to trying this out. We'll see how the XDm 9 compact does in the cold. LOL She's never had a chance to fire in the cold.

Give the XD time to stretch a little - that cold weather might cause shrinkage of the barrel length.
Just kidding!
You might want to stretch a little bit before hand yourself though. Hard to say what the COF will be for the match - I have seen some interesting ones before, and they can involve kneeling, crouching, or other maneuvers.
Good luck!

Call it cheating ,but the COF is posted already.
May be just a little running from time to time.

Re: First IDPA macth as PCSI Saturday, who's going?
Not cheating. It's too dang hard to set up and equitably run "surprise" stages. Unless you've got enough room to hide and isolate the range from everybody only the first person through is totally in the dark about how it's laid out, number of rounds needed, etc. Besides, people blab after they finish.
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

Re: First IDPA macth as PCSI Saturday, who's going?
Shouldn't be that cold and I've shot a XDm under far worse conditions! Was holding off to see what the weather was going to be like. When registration opened up, it was calling for flurries. PCSI is traditionally my first match of the year. It's been my first match I've shot for 4 out of the past 5 years. Skipped one when we had a major snow storm the day before here in Cleveland and was still digging myself out. Otherwise it was June my first year because that was my first IDPA (or any practical pistol) match ever. Checked again this past Tuesday and the weather was now looking decent enough for me to make the trek down there. Unfortunately all 60 spots had been taken and 8 were already on the wait list.
I know. I could register right away and always take my name off if I wasn't going to go after all. But I don't think that's fair for others or very right. Someone else who may have gone could decide not to bother if it's filled up. So I didn't try and register until I felt sure I would go.
Because of the distance for me, I usually didn't know if I'm going to go there until a day or two before. Even then trouble sleeping on Friday would keep me from getting on the road a little after 6a for the 3 hour drive. With the new registration and a limit of 60, doubt I'll be making it there at all this year.
Otherwise looks like some fun stages. Was planning on bringing the 10mm with some Power Pistol loads to help wake the range gods up from their winter slumber, and they've had a lot to slumber for this winter! To all those that will be shooting, I know you'll have a great time!

If you're really worried, you can just run her dry, she'll be fine until she gets really dirty (sand/dirt) or about the 250 rd. mark.Flhrci wrote:6We'll see how the XDm 9 compact does in the cold.
Wet, as long as the lube you're using won't gum, she'll be just fine.
With the Compact's abbreviated grip, if my hand gets cold enough that it gets really numb, I have a tendency to sometimes pinch a bit of flesh at the heel of my palm on the reload.

Sorry you can't make it. Hopefully there is something closer to where you live this year. Would have been cool to check out your 10MM. I have never seen one.dl1911 wrote:Shouldn't be that cold and I've shot a XDm under far worse conditions! Was holding off to see what the weather was going to be like. Not worried about performance issues. Gun powder burns in a wide range of temps.TSiWRX wrote:

That pinching problem sounds painful!

Yeah, it smarts a bit.
Then you get a love-mark as a reminder for a couple of days.

Re: First IDPA macth as PCSI Saturday, who's going?
Lots closer to me in Cleveland! Youngstown Rifle & Pistol starts next month. Ashland Lake Gun Club starts up on the 29th. Not sure if FCSI in Wauseon will start this month but almost definitely next month. The first two are only an hour away for me with 10:00 & 10:30 shotgun starts (can be late). Wauseon is a 2 hour drive and like to get there around 9:30. All 3 much better than on the road before 6:30! Planning on shooting the 10mm at the first match at each club so come on up! After that it will vary by my mood. Last few years everyone I know has been busy with other things. Not as much fun going alone so I've skipped a lot the past few years. The 10mm was always so much fun, especially because of the reactions with either 165gr Power Pistol loads, or my "regular" full power 180gr Blue Dot loads (http://youtu.be/u8xH7Cl-Qus" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). Hoping it pulls me out when I might otherwise stay home!Flhrci wrote:Sorry you can't make it. Hopefully there is something closer to where you live this year. Hope all have a great time. May still make it. Checked just now and they're working through the wait list. If not, I'll be off to drop off the paperwork to renew my CHL in Geauga County.

I thought it was capped at 60 shooters? How did they end up with more? I checked online Friday night and it was showing 60 shooters and 1 on the wait list.slowhand23 wrote:Beautiful weather today for the match! Thanks to all that helped keep things moving with 60+ shooters, still finished by 1pm

That's pretty much how it went for me! I'll spoil it for you a little. You'll keep having fun and get to know lots of great people! Keep an eye on the Competition & Events forum here. I'll be posting a list of matches & events every month. Next match I'm hoping to attend is on Saturday the 29th at Ashland Lake Gun Club (about 10 minutes from the Ashland Fin, Feather & Fur store). See that you're from Columbus so would likely be about an hour drive but in a different direction. You'll have to go through the intro speech there as well. Glad you had fun and are hooked!Flhrci wrote:I had a good time for my first time! I am hooked. Will get my IDPA membership going shortly. I WILL RETURN!
