House Bill 231

Post by charliej47 »

I sent an email to my senator and this is what I got back:
Thank you for your email regarding gun legislation. It is good to hear from you and it is always a pleasure to have the opportunity to address your concerns.

"As you may know, House Bill 231 expands the right to carry a concealed weapon to certain public areas, including places of worship, day-care homes, and government facilities, and would allow a person with a concealed carry license to carry a concealed handgun in a school zone, if the person leaves the handgun in his or her car. HB 231 would reduce the act of carrying a concealed handgun on the premises of an institution of higher education to a minor misdemeanor, provided that the person has a concealed carry license.

HB 231 was assigned to the Judiciary Committee in the House of Representatives. While I am a strong supporter of 2nd Amendment rights, I also am a strong supporter of property rights. Should the bill come up for consideration in the Senate, I will be sure to keep your thoughts in mind.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact me. If I, or anyone in my office, may be of further assistance, you will find that we are more than willing to help.

Sincerely,

You should be writing your representative first, especially if he is on the Juidiciary Comm. It doesn't do much good to write the senator until it reaches the Senate. Of greater concern with Sen. Coley is that HB203 is in his committee now and when we met with him last week he seemed to have some confusion between it and what is covered in HB231. We need to keep his focus on HB203 and avoid distracting him with 231.

We also learned if HB420 ever makes it as far as his committee that's pretty much where it's gonna stay absent some extraordinary support.
Total repeal of ALL firearms/weapons laws at the local, state and federal levels. Period. Wipe the slate clean.
