Help OFCC at Columbus Gun Show August 31 & September 1

Post by Chuck »

OFCC is looking for good people to help man the OFCC table at the Westland Mall Gun Show,
4273 Westland Mall Columbus, OH 43228, August 31 and September 1 from 9:00am to 5:00pm, Saturday, and 9:00 to 4:00pm Sunday

http://www.cegunshows.com/ShowInfo/Colu ... fault.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

We will be there both days, and could use a few more people each day to help out! It would be nice to have at least one or two other people at the table at all times to help spread the word about OFCC, hand out info, and take donations. That would give us plenty of help to rotate out for restroom & food breaks, as well as time to check out the vendors. And, as most of you already know, working the show gets you free admission.

For those of you that have never worked a gun show, or other OFCC event, this is a great opportunity to meet & talk to like minded people, meet some of your fellow OFCC members, and help out an organization that has done a lot to improve our gun rights in Ohio.

If you would like to volunteer, post in this thread, or send me a pm to let us know you can help.

Thanks!

Count me in for Friday setup and Saturday for the show. Sunday is a family event in Portsmouth - though I tried to just get them all to come up to the gun show instead!

That said - I worked my first one in June with Chuck, Jamie9mm, and MWSY. It was a good time, even though we had a not so good location on the floor. We had some decent traffic to the table, and some good conversations with a number of people interested in OFCC.

For anyone in the Central Ohio area that has an interest in volunteering, I recommend this opportunity. The 3 guys I mentioned are very active for 2A rights in various ways, and are great source of knowledge about promoting our 2A rights.

Absolutely! Had a few ladies stop by the table the last time to inquire/chat - having a lady on our side of the table might encourage more of that.

Chances are good that I'll have a "distraction" with me this show
One of my students is wanting to get into activism
She is working on written testimony for a part of HB 203, wants to come to the Statehouse, and says she will work the gun show with us too.

In any event, see you there!!

Many thanks to Chuck for leading this show again!

I worked Saturday with Chuck, MWSY, and one of Chuck's students. The show overall had a lower volume of people on Saturday, but we had some great turnout (at least I thought so). We had people stopping by to talk about the MAIG (non)event on Friday, as well as a lot of good questions/discussions on the current bills in the Ohio legislature. There was specifically a lot of interest in HB 203.

I personally got to talk with a gentleman from California who is moving to Ohio - he was asking about the process to get his CHL in Ohio. I think Chuck talked to some folks from New York as well. We had supporters stopping by to say "Hi!" throughout the day. We were handing out pamphlets to the adults and stickers to the kids. We got very few people that wanted to "commit" to sign up for OFCC on Saturday, but were interested in the forums. As far as we could tell, the pamphlets went home with folks - we were not seeing them in the trash or floor (we looked!). Hopefully, we will get some new members joining OFCC as a result.

Plus, we had a couple of kids wander in on us - so we decided to make them walking advertisements.

The crowd was much smaller at this one due to the holiday weekend AND the big Swappers Day event in Johnstown, but we worked the crowd pretty hard, like TR mentioned about our last show, passing out brochures and discussing the upcoming bills in the legislature. I learned that if you just hand someone a brochure without saying anything, they just hand it back and say "I already have mine", thinking we are selling classes for a CHL. If you hand it to them and say "We are fighting for gun rights" or "We are fighting for guns rights down at the Statehouse" they take it and say "Thank you", and I can then tell them to "stop by our table and check us out, we are clear in the back" I kept one of the red printed sheets of the eight anti-gun bills with me while doing this to show the uninterested people how they are trying to stop private sales, want to require a background check for hunting licenses, and require background checks for ammo and track purchases with a database. THAT usually got an appropriate reaction

We gave out nearly all of our brochures, and handed out lots of NGNM cards. We even had a couple ladies from Lima come looking for us just to get some. It seems they are getting thrown out of places up there for OCing. (Good looking ladies, too)

Image

BFA had an ideal location for their table this show, right on the main aisle and about seven or eight table in from the front door. They knocked off about two hours early the first day and Dave went over and made a nice arrangement of OFCC brochures on their table and took a picture. When we left that night about half of them had been taken by people walking by.
We got a kick out of that :)

I spent a lot of time trying to recruit people to come fill the committee rooms during hearings on upcoming legislation, both pro and anti.
Many local people are interested in doing just that, and we need to figure out a good way to get the word out
I noticed that BFA had a clip board for people to sign up for their email alerts
Maybe we should try that?
I think face book may be an option here too

Between the gun show and the rally in Columbus Friday, I had a big gun rights weekend
Ain't activism fun??
