Hoping to make it down for the match. Always a great time there. Stages look like they'll be fun. But .45ACP or 9mm Luger this time. No 10mm craziness!

Checked out the stages posted online and looks like another fun match! Hoping to make it down this month from Cleveland but will see how it goes when that alarm clock goes off Saturday morning!

Checked the website and looks like some interesting stages. Unfortunately Saturday is also the match at Ashland Lake. 2 hours closer, hour later start time so will have to miss it this month. Hope everyone there shoots well, stays safe and has a blast!

Do you have to be a PCSI member to participate in the IDPA match? How about to spectate?

Don't need to be a PCSI member. Just have to be there on time. First time IDPA Shooters there need to be there by 9a for a new to IDPA/safety briefing. Spectators are always welcome but do need to wear ear and eye protection the same as the shooters.

Thank you for the info! I've been curious about IDPA since the dealer I worked with in September told me about it. There's a strong possibility that I'll be there to watch and get a feel for how things operate. :D

Don't be afraid to just start right in! The CODPL has a nice intro to IDPA (http://www.defensivepistol.org/codplidpaovervie.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) on their website (http://www.defensivepistol.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). Take some time to read it through and maybe go through the rulebook at idpa.com as well. No reason to just watch. My first match was at PCSI a little over 4 years ago. I'd only been shooting for about 4 months and had gotten my CHL about a month earlier. The biggest concern is safety. If you can handle a gun safely (finger off the trigger except when pointed downrange at a target and keeping the muzzle pointed in a safe direction all the time are the biggies), you're good to go for IDPA. After going through the intro/safety speech, they'll work to make sure you're squaded with people who will help you out. You'll find that almost everyone, if not everyone, is happy to see a new face and will be helpful. Let your SO know that it's your first time and he'll help out as well, making sure you understand the course of fire, range commands, procedures, etc.

I don't think I'll ever forget the first stage I ever shot. PCSI is a 3 hour drive for me and I was on the road at 6a to get there in time for my first match. Had done the reading I mentioned above in the days before the match. Got hooked that day and went through the IDPA site looking for clubs that are closer. Since then I've met some of the greatest and most helpful people in my life. Friends who have always been there for me. My big goals for that first match were to 1) be safe. I wanted to get through the match with no safety issues or even warnings. 2) Have fun. Succeeded beyond my wildest dreams! The most important thing is to take it slow at first. You'll see people there like Kirk Crego, Distinguished Master class Stock Service Revolver shooter. Don't think you get this in any other sport. It's like having Tiger Woods in your foursome on the links or LeBron there for a pickup basketball game! DON'T try to shoot as quickly as he does! Take it slow at first, think and pay attention to what you're doing. Thoroughly enjoyed being squaded with him last April.

If I was going to be there, I'd be happy to squad with you and help you through your first match. Unfortunately I'll be at the Ashland Lake match this Saturday. But I'm sure there will be many there that will be happy to help you through it.

Hi, can you tell me more about the side match and how it works with the main IDPA competition? Thanks.

They are two separate competitions. Four stages for the IDPA match. Once everyone has shot the IDPA match, one of the stages will be modified to include 6 rifle targets (I believe at no additional match fee). There is no requirement to shoot the rifle/pistol match. They will be scored completely separately.

Total of 12 rifle shots scored. A maximum of 15 rounds may be loaded in the rifle. The stages (including the rifle/pistol stage) at http://www.defensivepistol.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

Let me know if you have additional questions. By the way, the next Multi-Gun match at PCSI is October 6th.

For those that used to shoot IDPA at Big Darby and live closer to Marysville than Circleville, the Richwood Gun and Game Club is starting an IDPA league. Our first match will be Saturday September 21. We will be running a 3 stage match. More information, details, directions, etc. are available at http://www.richwoodgunandgameclub.org. The matches will be organized and run by several of the regular PCSI IDPA shooters, safety officers and past match directors. We hope to plan a regular match for the 4th Saturday of each month (the previous dates of the Big Darby matches). We also have some Multi gun match plans in the works.
