Could Aurora shooter be charged with domestic terrorism?

Post by Johnny45 »

The Aurora shooter, James Holmes, has "lawyered" up and is not cooperating. His trial will probably cost millions. Why couldn't they just charge him with domestic terrorism and send him to Gitmo? He could be with the rest of the folks that like to kill as many innocents as they can.
Would this be going down the "slippery slope" so to speak?

My preference would be a trial next week (speedy trial), an appeal the week after, and hang him publicly the week after that.

He should not be lounging about in Club Gitmo.

Agreed. Gitmo should be for foreign combatants, not American citizens. No matter how heinous his crimes he was not picked up on a foreign field of battle fighting against our troops. Due process needs to take its course although as Mustang gal has said, I'd prefer a speedy trial, these things tend to get dragged out for years.

I don't want him charged with terrorism, even if the charge is completely true. I want him charged with plain, old-fashioned murder so that he has to go through the court system.
If he's adopted this Joker persona, if that's not just a rumor, then he would consider it mission accomplished if he can show that given the right motivation, we'll just pack him and ship him off to let the military do what they see fit, instead of giving him the justice that every other criminal gets. He will show that if you are animal enough, you WILL get special treatment and we WILL show our barbaric side by circumventing our own process to get him the punishment everyone's crying out for.

I want him to have a proper, correct trial - I also agree that it should be speedy. And then I want him to have a proper, correct punishment meted out by the court system. And then I want him to be forgotten.

Why? Did he blog about a return to Constitutional principles?

This will probably be added as a charge, to public applause. I don't think it would add to the sentence or be helpful to liberty and justice.

I am not one for furthering the idea that gives credence to homeland security or governments cause to throat step. This is a state crime.

I'm with whoever said it in the main thread.

Everyone is trying to analize his actions, or lack of, at the hearing today! This a very smart guy and I think that he was aware of every move etc. that he made today. It will go down as insanity.
