I didn't want to bother with showing up and it somehow not being good enough. So when I applied at Wood County, I just tossed them the extra $5 it takes to get them to snap it for you (with a digital camera). Then when it comes time to issue the license, you have the option of using the same one from your application or having them resnap it (for no additional fee I believe).

I had read where the Seneca Co. Sheriff's office had spent about $8000 for digital photography equipment so they could take the pictures for CCW, so I went there instead of Sandusky Co. which required one to bring in their own photographs. I thought perhaps giving them the extra $5 or $10 (whatever it was) would help them recoup their money.
Many counties have since brought their equipment out to fairgrounds during their county fairs and used it to photograph children for security for parents. They are finding good uses for it besides our good use.

Medina County is the same way, in that they have a small digital camera setup, and they snap your picture on the spot.
However you still need to bring in a recent photo of yourself for attachment to your written application. As soneone previously mentioned in this thread, I simply took a photo of myself with my own digital camera, printed out on glossy photo paper, scaled down to about 2"x2" and that was fine for their purposes.

I got my license in Satrk county. I was required to bring 2 passport photos. Got them done at Office Max. Then when it was time to issue the license, the Deputy took a digital photo there. I asked why I needed to bring in a photo when she took the one on the license, and she said they keep a photo on file and will compare it to me the next time I come in.

Another cheapskate here. Had a friend take my photo with a digital camera, sized the approriately and then printed them out on photo paper.
Montgomery County takes another one for the actual permit. Didn't ask if they would take pics for the applications (a year or so ago)

It took about 3 weeks to get my license in June of 2004. I lost my wallet yesterday with all my id and CHL in it, so I'll see what the procedure is for replacement, and how much time it takes.
I have my Pennsylvania license, so maybe that will speed things up.

Once you have an Ohio License, it is a simple matter to get New Hampshire and Pennsylvania non-resident licenses. They cost $20 each and with those two and Ohio, you're good in 30 states. Cheaper than Florida and a quick application turnaround, less than 2 weeks for both.tommcnaughton wrote:A Florida license lets you carry in another dozen or so states. It's fairly expensive, over $100, but you can use the same training certificate that you used for Ohio, so there is no additional training expense.

Except that Florida is a "shall-issue" state; New Hampshire is not. In NH the issuing authority has discretion whether or not to issue; in Florida, so long as you meet the requirements of the law, they have to give you the license. With most folks it won't make a difference, but there are some who can get the FL license, but not the one from NH.mreising wrote:Once you have an Ohio License, it is a simple matter to get New Hampshire and Pennsylvania non-resident licenses.
