JU-87:

I'm 65, but have only been a member at our club for about seven years. So, I still get the stories.... While by no means the newest member, I'm still one of the oldest. Very strange....

(The guy who sponsored me is about 58. I used to hang with his late father in our Radio Club.)

Nice bunch of guys, generally, but....

I used to walk by the "Quarter Century Wireless Association" meetings at local Hamfests (sort of a flea market thing) - all kinds of ancient geezers in there trying to breathe and talk at the same time. (Guys in Ham Radio for more than 25 years.) I just realized that I qualify for 50 years of that.... Not that I'm all that old, but in the morning, if I can see myself in the mirror, I go read the obits first. If I don't find myself, I make breakfast.... :D

Orochimaru:

The wife refuses to come down onto the range at all.... Last time I tried, she wouldn't go in the building.... "Not ladylike".... I did get her on a range about 35 years ago, though, and she did fairly well.

OTOH, the mud monster likes to shoot when she's around. I'm not sure if it's an "activity with Daddy" thing, or she really digs it, but a couple of her last boyfriends were into it, too. Didn't hurt her chances. I thought the last one was "the one", but that blew up. She got rid of him, and I got the cats....

Regards,
Stu.

(Why write a quick note when you can write a novel?)

(Why do those who claim to wish to protect me feel that the best way to do that is to disarm me?)

I love this thread so I have to share...

I was at an indoor range recently where a group of young, new shooters (note I am a 23 yr old woman...) came in pulled 4 or 5 firearms out of their Spiderman Backpack and a ziploc bag of ammo. They decided to fire their guns "gangsta style" (yes, leaning back and holding gun sideways) then scratched their heads when they couldn't hit the paper (at least a 24" x 36" cardboard) at 10'.

So they try a better grip and stance and still miss with the .22....ya. So I am shooting my Dad's XDm .45 and hit a few bullseyes at 21 feet, turn to let my Dad shoot and as I come out of the stall, see one of these idiots practically towering over me with his jaw on the floor. He literally stared at me surprised that I could shoot. bc you know the range was obviously broken if he was missing his target.

Here is the best part: one idiot either got a slide bite or hit with hot brass and turned perpendicular to the range, grabbing his hand while pointing his loaded gun, with finger still on the trigger, accross the stalls pointing it at every shooter in the range. I mean really?!?

Orochimaru wrote:Yelling at your wife/girlfriend about her various bad shooting habits (instead of actually helping her) will somehow make her a better shot... Oh -- and ignore the fact that you're shooting and she's texting -- she's still VERY interested in shooting (and getting yelled at)
There is a follow-up to this story. After Orochimaru left the guy saw me picking up brass and asked if I wanted theirs. After helping me clean up the range he showed me her target in what I guess was an attempt to embarrass her. I took the target and held it over my chest and said "They all look like hits to me" which made her very happy.

I could have taught her more in 5 min. then that guy ever was going to with his style.
