Tactical Life Saver Course available soon

Post by corrsk »

I am working on adapting the military combat life saver course to a more civilian course and I am trying to put together a test class of 5-6 people.

Topics covered:

1. Evaluate a casualty
2. Asess alertness
3. Treat a heat casualty
4. Treat a cold casualty
5. Treat a broken bone
6. Treat a laceration
7. Treat an open chest wound
8. Tactical combat casualty care
And more

This will be a 2 day course and you won't leave empty handed. Included in the cost will be you very own IFAK (improved first aid kit).

Please PM me or post in topic if you want to be in the test class. There will be a very nice discount for those participating in the test class.

I'm definitely interested, but I am limited due to scheduling: lots of family events occupying weekend time in the next two months. But definitely very interested!

It would depend on the specific details (when, where, how much, etc.), but I'm certainly interested.

cost is probably going to be around $300 - $350
it would vary to that slightly.
my plan is at the end of the class you will build your trauma kit based upon your needs i would make available 3-4 different kind of medic pouches and there would be a pre-determined set up with additional supplies that can be added and depending upon which additional supplies you add the cost may go up

example of a basic kit

molle trauma pouch
tourniquet
israeli bandage
medical tape
gloves
gauze

optional items
band aids
gauze pads
elasitc wraps
sam splints
quick clot
asherman seals
emt shears
Nasopharyangeal airway
asherman chest seal

(some items like band aids and gauze would be included in the build your trauma pouch price and other items like the emt shears , additional tourniquets, sam splints, quick clot would be slightly extra but no major mark up on those)

Still trying to see if I can bring the class time down to one long day and figure out pricing on the buildable kits.

Classes will be in the Toledo area.

I will be doing "dry runs" over the next week or so. The first real class will be the test class and the soonest for that will be in about 2 weeks.

Deposits will be mandatory to order the medical stuff for the trauma kits that you will be building. I will have more info posted as soon as I finish putting this together. Post to this topic to stay on top the updates.

I'm still definitely interested at the quoted price-range. :)

Again, it's only the date/scheduling that may hold me back, but I'll definitely make sure, prior to submitting deposit and confirming. :D

You're going to teach people how to use asherman seals and nasopharyangeal airways? Does Ohio require certification for that, and is there a liability concern?

Asherman seals are easy. The as far as the airways I haven't decided yet. I have the certifications. As far as liabilities I am having a liability waiver written up.

I think they're easy too but I've seen some people struggle mightily with them. I just wasn't sure what the Ohio requirements were and I personally would be concerned about the liability, particularly with the airways, but it sounds like you've got that covered.

I would encourage any one not comfortable with any part of the training to not use them without more training. Liability ewould fall on the person providing treatment.

There is a much higher liability risk of an untrained person using one of the commercially available kits. This is also why in the class you will build your own kit based upon your comfort level with the equipment and potential needs

I have several different size airways because they came in some of the kits I've ordered. I carry them in case a trained person on scene ever needs them, but I have no plan to use them myself because I don't consider myself trained. I've only witnessed one brief demonstration of their use, and that's nowhere near enough to constitute proper training. Too many things can go wrong with an airway. Chest seals are a different story. There isn't much that can go wrong that is any worse than what is already wrong in the first place, and although some people on rare occasions might find them difficult to use correctly, they're very difficult to use incorrectly.

This is an interesting idea....I am interested in a future class, this one is a little too short notice for me.

The problem I have seen is that many people purchase these advanced first aid kits with items they will never use and other items they dont know how to use properly. its best that they know how to use them or just have them available if there is someone who does know how to use them. anyone can buy a first aid kit, but you should have training in how to properly use the items it contains.

I plan to get First Responder Training, possibly starting next week, and I may up that to EMT-B at some point. Your class is just too far for me. I used to teach classes for the Red Cross but that was way back around the time when the wheel was invented.
