What about this sign (Dairy Queen)

Post by northcoast »

I've experienced two kinds of signs so far.

1) On the door as you enter a store -- the "you can't carry in this store" sign. Very clear.

2) At the entrance to the parking lot -- you can't carry on the property. Also clear.

Well, our neighborhood Dairy Queen just opened for the season. It is a walk-up. There is no "inside". They have their sign posted near the service window, where you order your DQ blizzard (if you know what's good for you!).

It appears to be the standard sign of variety #1, above, but since you are never inside the store...seems less than clear. Also, if it is of variety #2, then shouldn't they be posting it at the entrance to the property, and not up at the service window?

Curious as to people's thoughts...

Maybe they don't want people with guns to break in? I wouldn't walk past the sign, or even stick around and eat my Blizzard on the property, that's for sure. I'm not sure what they are getting at, but it's not good. Don't ask!

For me, things like this are pretty clear...

1. If they're a state-mandated CPZ, I *might* go into it because I want to eat there. For DQ, this is not the case since they're not a Class D establishment. So....

2. If the place is a CPZ of their own accord because they believe the "guns are evil" nonsense, then I will give my money to somebody else. I will not give my hard-earned cash to those who look down on me for protecting my family. Heck with 'em.

Besides, I'll take Young's Dairy ice cream over DQ any day of the week, and they're not posted.

Dairy Queen

I saw a gun buster signon the E200th street DQ in Euclid. It was on a walk up only.

I think it means 'do not crawl through window with gun.'

That's the one!

I was thinking I'd just make sure the clerk reached out of the window to bet my money, rather then me reaching in to give it to him/her.

Then I'd be doing nothing wrong?

Thanks for the responses,

I'd get an ice cream someplace else, go up to the window, ask for the manager and hand them a NG=NM card.

Lot's of other ice cream stores in the world.
Alcohol, tobacco, firearms and explosives should be a 24/7 convenience store, not a government agency.

DQ

I haven't checked the DQ in Heath but it would be strange if they did. Last year a woman employed there was stabbed several times in a robbery attempt.

IANAL, but I think that sign would be invalid for the parking lot - at least on your first visit - but would thereafter make the whole place a CPZ.

You can find better places....

Here is one my husband(glock23) and I just had a discussion on last night. What about a place like Skyway or Swenson's where you eat in your car? If they are not posted, it has to be fully visable if on your person. Can you imagine that call to the Police?

The other option is to lock it in the glovebox, but obviously, not as accesible.

What would you do?

Eat in car

Keep it in plain sight and [Expletive Deleted -- TR] the hired help. You're legal, do what you want and if a local gendarme shows up he'll see you are following the law and this will become a non-issue eventually. If they get enough "person with a gun in a car" that check out legal they'll start to get the message and maybe the people calling in for no reason will get a lecture from Mr. Policeman.
I've had my gun spotted at drive-thrus at least 5 times. Twice it evolved into a conversation with the person about gun rights and CHL, the others it was ust ignored.
