National Guard moving out

Post by bignflnut »

Around 400 National Guard personnel have been activated across six states to support operations to stem the spread of novel coronavirus, the National Guard Bureau said in a press release.

The governors of Florida, Iowa, Louisiana, New York, Rhode Island and Washington have all activated components of their Army and Air National Guard. Guardsmen in California and Maryland are also expected to join their states’ efforts today.

“The National Guard is fully involved at the local, state, and federal level in the planning and execution of the nation’s response to COVID-19,” a National Guard Bureau spokesperson said in the release. “In times of emergency, the National Guard Bureau serves as a federal coordinating agency should a state require assistance from the National Guard of another state.”

“At the national level, Guard members are training personnel on COVID-19 response, identifying and preparing National Guard facilities for use as isolation housing, and compiling state medical supply inventories,” the release continued. “National Guard personnel will provide assistance to the states that include logistical support, disinfection/cleaning, activate/conduct transportation of medical personnel, call center support, and meal delivery."

While the number currently stands at under 500, the National Guard Bureau said those numbers “will rapidly change,” as the agency “expect that number to approach 1,000” by the end of the day.

Currently, 33 states have declared states of emergencies to mobilize greater resources and streamline responses to the new coronavirus outbreak, the bureau noted.

All the school campuses are going to be empty, and they're in every community...They're just coming to clean the schools, right?
Come on down and get tested...for "Public Safety".

So is the national guard magically immune to the virus ? What exactly are they going to be doing, spraying disinfectant in the streets ? Protecting shipments of toilet paper so everyone can get some ? Wondering how this works.

In Georgia
The state’s governor has called in 2,000 national guard troops to “assist” with 99 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The complete loss of freedom and the decimation of the economy are the real problems here, not the actual virus. While it’s true that this virus spreads rapidly, and it is new, so little is known about it, the sheer panic is astronomical and that’s a much bigger concern right now. Governor Brian Kemp hasn’t helped calm his constituents either. He has issued an executive order to call up as many as 2,000 Georgia National Guard troops to State Active Duty to address coronavirus concerns. But it’s only going to panic people further and cause more economic disruptions.

Maryland:
Relief to Residents and Families
Essential services such as grocery stores, banks and gas stations will be allowed to remain open.
The executive order prohibits utilities, such as electric, gas, water, sewage, cable, internet and phone lines, to be cut off nor incur late fees.
Evictions have been prohibited.
Maryland State Superintendent of Schools Karen Salmon has applied for a Federal waiver to provide three meals a day plus a snack to those who need it. Statewide, 138 centers already up and operating. Visit MDSummerMeals.org to find all participating locations.

Activation of Additional Personnel

250 State Troopers of the Mobile Field Force have been made ready for deployment.
1,000 Maryland National Guard members and airmen have been fully activated, while 1200 are on enhanced readiness.

Hogan reiterated that all emergency orders incur the full force of the law.

"It is impossible to know how long this threat will continue. I do know we cannot afford to wait," Hogan said.
