The Militia of Tazewell County, Virginia

Post by bignflnut »

While Virginia as a whole is a very interesting RKBA story, it makes sense to closely watch Tazewell County because they are going all the way with the 2nd Amendment, forming a militia, placing the power of law enforcement in the hands of people not pounding a government paycheck.

If your original reaction to this story is one of horror, please consider the original concept of the 2nd Amendment and its function in civilized society.

With the concept of decentralized power in mind, we read of Tazewell County:
The second item on the agenda was the proposition of establishing a militia in the county. When both of the resolutions passed, the crowd cheered loudly in support of the decisions. Also, the resolutions didn’t exactly pass by a small margin; the votes were unanimous, with more than 200 citizens standing by in support.

The motion of the creation of the militia had already succeeded in an unofficial way based on the results of a survey conducted earlier in the month by county officials. But Board Chairman Travis Hackworth said people have persisted to press for the district to declare itself a second amendment sanctuary.

Hackworth went on to state that there were three attorneys on the Board of Supervisors. Many of the other declarations made from other counties in Virginia were closely checked by the three attorneys to ensure nothing important would be glossed over or left out.

Two of the biggest factors in resolutions such as these can be boiled down to funding and prosecution.

The resolutions in Tazewell County would remove funding for any law enforcement department that would infringe residents’ right to keep and bear arms.

Yet, if the state wanted to combat the resolutions, they could deny the county funding in areas other than law enforcement, or perhaps attempt to evict public officials from their held offices. Those are rather valid fears, considering this week’s warnings from Northam and Congressman McEachin.

Thus, if anyone from the state tries to remove the Sheriff from their elected office because they refuse to enforce unjust laws, those state officials will be faced with a lawful militia composed of citizens within the state.

The county is taking their militia element very seriously as the new ordinance calls for concealed weapons training for any resident of the county that can lawfully own a gun.
They're going old school in Tazewell County. (The place where Lassie was filmed.) May God Bless Tazewell County.

On Dec. 3rd, 2019, our Board of Supervisors chose to exercise some of its rights under the Virginia Constitution to order or regulate militia. By insuring that our residents have the opportunity (1) to possess certain types of firearms, (2) to educate themselves on their use, (3) to learn common military practices, and (4) to learn basic survival skills, we hope to preserve a group of residents who could form a militia, were such a body needed. Without these most basic elements our County would not have a group of persons from whom a militia could be drawn. At the moment, however, the Board has not called any such militia to arms and prays that such moment never occurs."

Tazewell County was one of more than 50 counties across the state to pass second amendment sanctuary resolutions following the Nov. 5 elections that saw Democrats take control of the legislature. The county also adopted resolution stating it intended to exercise its right under article one section 13 of the state constitution to form a county militia.

And why are we having this Second Amendment fight? Because the VOTERS have put these Democrats in office. Basically it's a urban vs. rural cultural divide. And the many are telling the few what to do.

And it's due in part to apathy. There was a low voter turnout in Virginia and Kentucky, so the organized Dems were able to pull off their coup.
