VA Civilian Defense League having special lobby day

Post by AlanM »

Grab a big bowl of popcorn and watch a really active state pro-gun organization go to work.

Gov. Ralph Northam will convene special session of Virginia legislature to take up gun control

Lobby Day - VCDL Special Session

The call is going out all over the state:

EDIT to above.
There was a error in the first email.
Here's the correction.
https://mailchi.mp/8e80b78a03c9/va-aler ... c4a30f8503
In reference to the item "2. Cover up in Virginia Beach: victim feared a mass shooting by DeWayne Craddock and wanted to be armed, but couldn't by employee policy" on June 13, it looks like I misread a sentence in one of the articles on the Virginia Beach massacre. My initial reading was that the killer and another employee were BOTH terminated. Reading the sentence again, I now don't believe the murderer was terminated. He had been apparently involved in various altercations, including a violent one, at work.

Sorry for the confusion, lots of moving parts in that story.

Here is a corrected version of that item:

2. Cover up in Virginia Beach: victim feared a mass shooting by DeWayne Craddock and wanted to be armed, but couldn't by employment policy

Imagine this happening to you. Your spouse is extremely frightened that either a just-fired co-worker who made threats as he was escorted from the property, or another co-worker who had shown past violent tendencies, was going to come to work and start killing people.

You tell your spouse to take a gun to work just in case. Your spouse has a gun and has had training, but ends up making the fateful decision not to break their employment agreement by bringing the gun to work.

The next day, the co-worker with the violent tendencies comes to work. He has a key to access secure areas of the building, where police have no access, and ends up murdering your spouse and eleven other people.

That's what happened to Jason Nixon, whose wife, Katherine, was murdered in cold blood. Katherine was made defenseless by the City of Virginia Beach's employment agreement.

If the above scenario is accurate, Virginia Beach is in the middle of a coverup, as the City claims that the murderer showed no signs of being dangerous, was in good standing, and not about to be fired. And the City also apparently made no effort to increase security after the verbal threats by the fired co-worker.

(BTW, a trusted source with an inside track told me shortly before this article came out that the murderer had indeed been fired the day before and had made loud, threatening remarks as he left the property. Based on the article, I now believe the source's inside track was not talking about the murderer, but the other employee in question.)

A litany of "what if's" surely haunt Mr. Nixon. What if Katherine had taken that gun in her purse and defied workplace rules? What if she had called in sick that day? What if she had left work early?

All we can do is pray for Mr. Nixon and work to fix the wrong that stripped his wife of her right to protect herself. We need to outlaw "gun-free zones" once and for all. No law-abiding Virginian should be required to die helplessly at the hands of a workplace killer in order to have a job. And the government, of all employers, should be upholding the Constitution and the protections in the Bill of Rights.

Here's an article by Kerry Dougherty on the alleged coverup by Virginia Beach:

He called the legislature to a special session to consider a host of radical gun control measures in an effort to capitalize on a tragedy and make some political hay in an election year.

Of course, the Demanding Moms also turned out to show their support for re-creating past tyrannies with their support for gun control. And the Virginia Citizens Defense League called out gun owners to oppose Northam’s political theater.

SNIP

Yes, the special session did get underway today. And barely two hours later, the legislature adjourned until November, handing Northam a humiliating political defeat.

Just what did Governor Coonman want to impose upon residents? The VCDL has a list:

Red Flag laws – forget the unconstitutionality of this law, no one thought the Virginia Beach murderer to be a threat, so that law would have changed nothing
Universal Background Checks – the Virginia Beach murderer passed at least two background checks, just like the Virginia Tech murderer. And street thugs don’t go through background checks to get their guns
One Handgun a Month – the murderer bought the two handguns he used a year apart, not even a month apart
“Assault Weapon” ban – no “assault weapons” were used in the Virginia Beach massacre. Long guns are rarely ever used in crime
Magazine-capacity limits – the commission on the Virginia Tech massacre concluded that restricting magazine size would not have changed the outcome
Silencer/suppressor ban – it is extremely rare that a lawfully owned suppressor is used in a crime. They are not popular with criminals because 1) the gun shot is still loud and 2) it doubles the length of a handgun, making it much more difficult to conceal
Bump-stock ban – bump stocks have only been used in one crime, out in Nevada and there is no evidence that it increased the number of injuries or fatalities
Allow local government to implement gun control (get rid of firearm pre-emption law) – the Virginia Beach government building was already a “gun-free zone.” What are they going to do, make it a double-gun-free-zone? This legislation would make gun laws in Virginia extremely hard to comply with, benefiting criminals, who don’t care about laws, and dissuading good people due to the complexities of carrying legally as they travel through the state
Punish those who’ve had a gun stolen if they don’t report it quick enough – as if having your gun stolen isn’t bad enough, you will get punished by the State if you don’t report it fast enough. How do you prove you reported the theft within the arbitrary timeframe the law would require?
Charge gun owners with a felony if a child has access to loaded gun – this includes a “child” who is a 17-year-old, has broken into your locked house, and found a loaded gun in your nightstand! There have been many cases where someone under 18 has used a firearm to save their life during a home invasion. That would get the parent a felony charge under this law.
A big YaaaaaahhhhS! to Northam from VCDL!
God Bless VCDL!

REPUBLICANS obviously had some beans in the chili pot, also...

From the linked TTAG article...
The session on gun violence called by Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam got off to a chaotic start, with the Republican Senate majority leader averting a mutiny in the GOP caucus by publicly disavowing a gun-control bill he had proposed only the day before.
Acquisitions thus far:

-Butter knife
-Soda straw and peas
-Sharpened pencil
-Newspaper roll
--water balloon (*diversionary*)

Yeah, I'm that good

Anybody know Maj Toure? I didn't. He's a rapper and activist and the co-founder of Black Guns Matter, a firearms safety and training organisation working in urban communities across the US.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maj_Toure

Yesterday he spoke in Richmond, VA at the VCDL Lobby Day.

Here's the video of that speech.

It was posted on the VA gun forum with the title "Have you learned history?"
with this quote
All political power comes from the barrel of a gun. The communist party must command all the guns, that way, no guns can ever be used to command the party - Mao Tse Tung
I also received an email from the president of VCDL thanking those that showed up to the Lobby Day.
Unfortunately due to my mobility situation I didn't attend.

The GOA along with the VCDL reaction to the special VA legislature session was IMHO impressive.

Anti-gun Virginia Governor Swings for the Fences, Winds Up Striking Out Big Time
The showdown in the Old Dominion ended as soon as it began.

Gov. Ralph Northam (D) set out to use the recent Virginia Beach mass shooting to his political advantage.

He called the legislature back into session with one objective — to pass a litany of gun control proposals.

But he wound up empty. The legislature met briefly yesterday and then quickly adjourned without passing one iota of gun control.
