California Democrat Threatens "Nukes" If Americans Don't Han

Post by Tesser »

Just days after taking back the House, a Democratic Congressmen has proposed outlawing "military-style semi-automatic assault weapons" and forcing existing owners to sell their weapons or face prosecution.

In a USA Today op-ed entitled “Ban assault weapons, buy them back, go after resisters,” Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., argued Thursday that prior proposals to ban assault weapons “would leave millions of assault weapons in our communities for decades to come.”

Swalwell proposes that the government should offer up to $1,000 for every weapon covered by a new ban, estimating that it would take $15 billion to buy back roughly 15 million weapons - and “criminally prosecute any who choose to defy [the buyback] by keeping their weapons.”

As NBC News reports, this is a major departure from prior gun control proposals that typically exempt existing firearms; as in the past, Democrats and gun safety groups have carefully resisted proposals that could be interpreted as 'gun confiscation', a concept gun rights groups have often invoked as part of a slippery slope argument against more modest proposals like universal background checks.

And sure enough Swalwell's egotistical over-reach - going full "Australia" - prompted anger across social media. But it was one particular thread that caught our eye...

John Cardillo, 'America Talks Live' host on Newsmax, tweeted in response: "Make no mistake, Democrats want to eradicate the Second Amendment, ban and seize all guns, and have all power rest with the state. These people are dangerously obsessed with power."

Which prompted a further response from Joe Biggs, a combat vet, "So basically @RepSwalwell wants a war. Because that’s what you would get. You're outta your {inappropriate language} mind if you think I’ll give up my rights and give the gov all the power."

To which Rep. Swalwell decided to reply - in a not tyrannical-sounding way at all... "And it would be a short war my friend. The government has nukes. Too many of them. But they’re legit. I’m sure if we talked we could find common ground to protect our families and communities."

"So our government would nuke its own country in order to take guns? Wow," Biggs responded.

"Don’t be so dramatic. You claiming you need a gun to protect yourself against the government is ludicrous. But you seem like a reasonable person. If an assault weapons ban happens, I’m sure you’ll follow law," Swalwell tweeted back.

And after the furor exploded, Swalwell quickly resorted to the "it was sarcasm" excuse.

* * *

Now the question is - who will Twitter ban? The conservative-leaning 2nd Amendment-protector raising his 'social media' above the pulpit; or the liberal politician who is threatening to unleash nukes on domestic soil in order to ensure the citizenry follow his demands and hand over their means of defense?
Liberty is the soul's right to breathe, and when it cannot take a long breath, laws are girdled too tight.

So the left continues to be more and more hyperbolic and transparent in order to make the GOP confiscation efforts via ERPOs, bumpstock / component bans, etc more and more attractive.

We've got one dude who acknowledges that he'll take you on a date, straight to the back alley to assault you (Wokewell). The other promises a great party, Ruffies you and takes you home in a fog after assaulting you in the back alley, not that you remember anything but the party, which exceeded your expectations! But you HAVE to go out on the first Tuesday in November lest you be thought of as an ugly girl on National Date Night. (It's the most important date night in HISTORY!)

Is anyone advocating against NFA 34 or GCA 68? Nah.

This guy is playing an important part in the kabuki theater. Dismissive rejection of what seems foolish at the time has a way of finding its way into Congressional agendas. Going full "Australia" is a goal that is moving forward as the economy sputters.

Big League Politics reached out to Snopes founder David Mikkelson to see whether the “I was just joking” defense would work in the case of any potentially non-factual statement. He did not immediately respond to the request for comment.

Swalwell, for his part, touted the “fact-check” as total vindication on his Twitter account:

“Well this should end the faux-outrage from gun groups. @snopes DEBUNKS @DailyCaller and others who claimed I made serious threat to nuke gun-owners. Let’s move on to what really matters: ensuring our right to be safe is paramount,” he said.

Nukes wouldn't be a very effective way to enforce gun control. Nukes work best directed at big cities, which already have gun control and gun control supporters and politicians.

From the Snopes website:
Swalwell also responded directly to Joe Biggs, who first invoked the concept of a “war” between gun owners and the U.S. government, clarifying that “No one is nuking anyone or threatening that” and positing the “argument that you would go to war with your government” to be “ludicrous”:
He's probably right about that. Sounds pretty unlikely. After all, when were the first shots of any group of people going to war with their own government started over something as silly as confiscating arms?

I took that "nukes" comment to mean that the full force and resources of the federal government would come down on the unwashed, ignorant Neanderthals who refused to surrender their arms and comply with the new world order. which, to my unwashed, ignorant Neanderthal mind would be the first shot in the ensuing civil war.

Those who exclaim that the people cannot possibly win a war against the federal government using small arms are absolutely correct. What they don't realize is that it is not necessary to win. It is only necessary to not lose.

The real question is whether we can define the defining moment. What are the exact circumstances that will start this war? I'm starting to doubt that we can come to any type of consensus on this point. Or that it is so far away, that it will be too late.
“If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. ABC 7 reports that Bay Area Congressman Eric Swalwell is preparing to hold a news conference on Monday where he's expected to suspend his campaign. The news conference will be held at 4 pm ET (1 pm PT) in Dublin, Calif. Swalwell reportedly cancelled several campaign events last week.

Swalwell, who launched his campaign back in April during an appearance on 'the Late Show' with Stephen Colbert, was among the candidates who tried to focus on one issue - in Swalwell's case, that issue was gun control.
The irony of a candidacy primarily based on erasing RKBA being the first casualty...

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), whose White House candidacy has polled at an embarrassing 0% in multiple national public surveys, became the first Democrat presidential hopeful to pull the plug on his 2020 campaign.

With his level of arrogance, he'll end up getting caught for some kind of corruption or egregious law-breakng at some point. Sort of like all those Mayors Against Illegal Guns folks, many of whom just couldn't seem to stay out of jail.
