The latest Gun Free Zone attack comes from Colorado:
Transgender Denver high school student is identified as 'second gunman who killed one classmate and wounded eight', as friends refer to him as a 'tortured soul' who 'didn't get the support he needed'

Alec McKinney has been accused of killing one classmate, injuring eight others
Allegedly stormed STEM School Highlands Ranch with friend Devon Erickson
Authorities have been describing McKinney as a female juvenile named Maya
But friends confirmed McKinney identifies as male and prefers to be called 'Alec'
When McKinney appeared in court, attorney said he preferred the pronoun 'he'
Friends have taken to McKinney's Instagram to reveal he was suffering from mental health issues and 'desperately needed' help

The second gunman who allegedly opened fire on classmates at a Denver High School appeared in court on Wednesday.

Alec McKinney has been accused of killing one classmate and injuring eight others alongside his friend Devon Erickson at STEM School Highlands Ranch on Tuesday.

Authorities described McKinney as a female juvenile named Maya after initially identifying the second gunman as a boy based on appearances.

But friends of McKinney have confirmed that the teen identified as a male and preferred to be called 'Alec'.
Not getting a great deal of play in the media, wonder why (*strokes chin*)...
Either way, it's on Trump for not keeping his promise of eradicating gun free zones on the federal level.
Teacher friends tell me that May is a month where the kids go bonkers...weather, end of year, senioritis, call it what you will...these stories will become more prevalent.

Devon Erickson, an 18-year-old high school student who has worked as a youth actor in Colorado, was identified by authorities as one of the two shooters accused of wounding nine students in a K-12 STEM school located in Douglas County. One of those students, 18-year-old Kendrick Castillo, died heroically in the attack after confronting one of the shooters.

In court for the first time on May 8, Erickson bowed his head, his purple hair dangling over his face. He’s facing more than two dozen charges.
This article is more than you'll ever care to know about shooter one.

Douglas County District Judge Theresa Slade has put the charges along with the entire case file under seal, banning the public from seeing it. Both teenagers were each facing a range of charges including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, arson and theft.

McKinney was charged as an adult, prosecutors said.

Both Erickson and McKinney were being held without bond.

Denver’s ABC affiliate television station has reported that the two pistols used in the attack were stolen from the home of Erickson, whose parents had purchased the guns legally. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office declined to comment.

On Friday an engineer for the city of Virginia Beach, Virginia murdered 12 people and wounded two more in a city building. According to ABC News, the shooter used two legally purchased .45 handguns, at least one of which was equipped with a suppressor.

It isn’t yet clear how the shooter came by the suppressor(s) he used.

SNIP

As we are all aware, President Trump took a similarly dim view of bump fire stocks. And following the Las Vegas shooting, he directed the ATF to “take another look” at them. That resulted in the magical reclassification of bump stocks as machine guns.

The Hearing Protection Act, given the current makeup of Congress, is a dead letter. What more could the President or the ATF do to limit suppressor ownership?

We’ve seen past departures from Donald Trump’s campaign pledge to NRA members:

“Your Second Amendment rights … will never, ever be under siege as long as I'm your president.”

That hardly squares with the Trumpstock ban (effectively given the green light by NRA), with his red flag “due process later” support (ditto, despite the claim to the contrary), and with several of the president’s nominees for positions of vital impact to gun owner interests, most recently the FOP functionary he wants to head ATF.

Unsurprisingly, NRA higher-ups, fighting self-inflicted wounds, have been silent on the president’s latest threat of betrayal, and unsurprisingly, an insider Nominating Committee-picked director has decided member inquiries merit insulting dismissals. That hardly appears the most productive tack for an organization desperately pleading for donations from a membership increasingly alienated by reports of expensive suits and apartments for interns, and its closed-mouth circling of wagons.

If Fairfax expects the disillusioned to reopen their wallets, a thorough, top-down housecleaning and a credibly sincere effort to earn back lost trust must be made. Likewise, President Trump — besieged on all sides by Democrats calling for impeachment and imprisonment and swamp Republicans undermining him at every turn — can hardly afford to alienate the one group he’s making increasingly difficult to stand by him, gun owners.

“How Trump can lose in 2020. Keep up the anti 2A talk,” Gun Talk Radio host Tom Gresham advised his Twitter followers Wednesday. “Gunnies won't vote for your opponent, but they will just stay home.”

SNIP

If Trump and the Republicans manage to blow what’s been given to them, that’s not going to change. If voting was all you had to do to eradicate the right to keep and bear arms, it wouldn’t be much of a deterrent to tyranny at all.

As this article was going to publish, a related development took place:

“The Supreme Court is rejecting a challenge to federal regulation of gun silencers, just days after a gunman used one in a shooting rampage that killed 12 people in Virginia … President Donald Trump’s administration asked the court to stay out of the case and leave the convictions in place.”

The “Would you rather have Hillary?” meme is wearing pretty thin, especially when you consider the kind of fundraising noise that would have been made out of Fairfax had her administration done that.
President Trump’s interview last Wednesday on British television with Piers Morgan could not have come at a worse time for the Kettler petition. One of the most virulent anti-gun members of a generally anti-gun media, Morgan asked Trump for his view on suppressors, often called silencers, and Trump took the bait. Trump’s response was ‘I don’t like it.’ President Trump also said he would like to think about banning suppressors. GOA would oppose any such effort—whether it came through legislation or through actions from Trump’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

SNIP

“This President claims to be the most pro-gun president in history, but he needs to understand that he is deeply disappointing and demoralizing those who worked so hard to elect him. If every time a shooting occurs this President reacts emotionally to ban whatever weapon might have been used … there will be a never-ending series of threats to the Second Amendment.

Sadly, it appears that the new additions to the U.S. Supreme Court have not brought about the changes for which the gun community was hoping. Regardless, Gun Owners ofAmerica is determined to fight all those who oppose gun rights at every step, and we will continue to challenge the NFA and bans on suppressors in Congress and in the courts.”

Trump lied to and betrayed gun owners and 2nd amendment supporters here. Not a SINGLE positive motion (from a gun owner perspective) came from him. Instead the unconstitutional back stabbing with the bumpfire stock ban. He and the NRA have lost me as a supporter for good.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY-4) introduced legislation Tuesday to repeal the federal Gun-Free School Zones Act (GFSZA) so teachers can carry guns for defense of themselves and their students.

The GFSZA was passed in 1990 and Massie introduced legislation in 2017 and 2018 in hopes of repealing it.

SNIP

Massie’s bill is titled the Safe Students Act.
Did anyone catch that? This bill was proposed when the House, Senate and POTUS was all GOP!
For a DAY ONE promise, this seems to be far from the agenda, doesn't it?
And yet, did it make any noise? Did it get any support? Did it come up at CPAC or an NRA convention?
Go and sign THAT!

We need to get the President’s attention and convince him that by supporting the Second Amendment, he is not only upholding his oath of office, he’s also doing what’s in his best interests politically. But we need to convince him of this before he gives away more ground on our rights.

I couldn’t agree more. And I join GOA in urging you to contact Trump. I did. Now it’s your turn.
So, are we going to learn any lessons heading into the 2020 cycle, or will we rinse and repeat, giving unaccountable power to a dude who clearly doesn't give a damn about the 2nd Amendment? There won't be a third term, so 2020-2024 is the term where he's entirely unbridled. Has he earned that? Has he proven to be better than the alternative (where the GOP seems to attempt to stand up to and/or stops encroachments in our Rights)?

If we have to put up a fuss to save bump stocks and suppressors, is this a "friend" we want to give a 4 year pass to?

I don't see Democrats as alternatives, as they will not defend our Rights.
Voting for Trump in 2020 will not help defend our Rights. That's demonstrable at this juncture.

The alternative, since you used the term, is to have our vote actually stand for defending our Rights when a candidate is worthy of our vote.

Trump deserves to lose 2020, anything he does now is simply pandering to get 4 more years. These first 2+ years, we can see what he's made of. He's going into campaign mode, although he barely left it.

I can comprehend how people were duped by the WWE Hall of Famer. I can see how an outsider who was purportedly successful in branding was attractive.

What can be the excuse now? Can anybody really defend voting for him in 2016? Does anybody think we're in a better place mid-2019 than we were in late-2016?

I'm striking up the choir!
This is a passionate video of a veteran who's had enough of Trump RE 2A.

Resolve yourself now, as Hannity and Limbaugh pivot from the ongoing discussion of the 2016 election to the 2020 election (each, the most important election in American, ney!, Global History!). Before they start whipping the votes against Mayors, VPs, Senators, etc, resolve to not fall into the same traps that brought us a candidate like Trump.

Reminder we haven't had a truly pro-gun president in a very very long time. Reagon banned open carry in California (still in effect), and banned automatics in 1986.

George H. W. Bush gave us the Gun Free School Zone Act, effectively turning every major city into a gun free zone unless you have a CHL.

Bill Clinton gave us the assault weapons ban, which George W. Bush supported but Congress didn't get an extension put on his desk. He did at least nominate Alito in the supreme court, who helped give us DC vs Heller. So there's that.

Obama talked hard about gun control but nothing got to his desk except two pro gun laws which he signed without complaint.

Then there's Trump. Don't think I need to say anything about him except bleh on the issue.

I wish Rand Paul was president.
"If circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people while there is a large body of citizens, little, if at all, inferior to them in discipline and the use of arms, who stand ready to defend their own rights and those of their fellow-citizens." -Alexander Hamilton, Federalist Papers
