Oregon Minority Walking Out good for RKBA?

Post by bignflnut »

While the state is politically dominated by coastal urban enclaves, there is a strong ribbon of defiance in the more conservative areas of the state. Once again, GOP lawmakers have walked out of the legislature, denying progressives a quorum to cram whatever they want down Oregon’s throat.

That led to Gov. Kate Brown to order the state police to round them up. Now, I haven’t been able to find a law that requires them to be present for a vote if they don’t wish to be. In other words, Brown is using the police in an act of violence against Republican legislators who are trying to prevent what they see as detrimental legislation from being passed.

In response, one lawmaker issued a warning of his own.
“Send bachelors and come heavily armed,” Sen. Brian Boquist, a Republican from Dallas, said late Wednesday as the prospect of a walkout loomed. “I’m not going to be a political prisoner in the state of Oregon. It’s just that simple.”
Can we see minorities in Statehouses or the US Capitol walking out to prevent an unfavorable vote? Is this a valid form of protest? Does one's presence confer consent? Does this portend a breakdown of civil governments?

The Oregon Three Percenters, who participated in the armed takeover of a wildlife refuge in 2016, was one of many groups to support the Republican legislators’ defiance. Apparently this, along with support for the legislators by other right-wing groups, was unsettling to law enforcement. The State Capitol was closed Saturday “due to a possible militia threat,” according to a spokesman for Senate President Peter Courtney.

The Oregon State Police said they were “monitoring information throughout the day that indicates the safety of legislators, staff and citizen visitors could be compromised if certain threatened behaviors were realized.”

The real threat in Oregon, of course, is the tyrannical governor and her authoritarian Democrat jack-booted thugs (i.e. the Oregon State Police) who are now hunting down Republican lawmakers at gunpoint in order to shove their destructive law through the legislature. As The National Sentinel reports, “Raising the cost of production and doing business (cause) will have predictable effects: Loss of jobs, loss of revenue, higher prices, higher energy costs. And for some in Oregon — farmers, truck drivers, loggers — the law would decimate their industries. And worse, there is no real consensus that human activity is causing the climate to change. In fact, the Left’s predictions of doom and gloom are routinely debunked by reality. In particular, Republicans say that gas prices alone would rise 22 cents a gallon almost immediately, and much more over the long haul.”
Does the Oregon citizens’ militia have a duty to arrest Gov. Kate Brown?

It all begs the question: If the radical left-wing governor of Oregon is willing to dispatch armed hunting squads to round up Republican lawmakers at gunpoint, don’t the citizens of Oregon have the right (and possibly the duty) to arrest Gov. Kate Brown and charge her with abuse of power and making threats of violence against lawmakers? Dispatching armed police to round up your political opponents is surely a crime. Is it a crime that will be tolerated by the citizens of Oregon?

These same Democrats probably praised the Texas Democrats who walked out of the legislature a few years ago to stop what was then a popular bill from being passed.

Did the TX Governor order the State Police to round them up?

I recall this happening at least once before, as mentioned here, maybe twice?

I seem to recall that he did, but I'm not sure.

The way I remember, in Texas there was gum flapping about sending police after the absent Democrats, but it didn't happen.
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

Oregon Senate President Peter Courtney said Tuesday that the climate change bill that prompted Republicans’ walkout lacks the votes necessary to pass because not enough Democrats support it.

"House Bill 2020 does not have the votes on the Senate floor,” Courtney, D-Salem, said after Democrats assembled for their morning roll call. “That will not change.”

SNIP

Sen. Cliff Bentz, R-Ontario, said Courtney’s announcement came as a surprise to him and his caucus had not planned its response to the unanticipated development. However, he said there would be a lot of concern about a possible head fake by Democrats, and he noted a variety of procedural issues that would have to be addressed before Republicans would likely agree to come back to the Capitol.

SNIP

“It’s now up to Republicans to prove me wrong," Brown said. "Are they against climate change legislation or are they against democracy? If they are not back by Wednesday afternoon, we will know the answer.” Brown had declared on Monday that she would not negotiate with Republicans until they returned to Oregon.

House Speaker Tina Kotek, of Portland, weighed in on Twitter just before noon Tuesday, saying of Courtney’s statement that the climate bill was dead, “I believe him.”

“This has been a dark week for the integrity of the Legislature,” Kotek wrote. “Senate Rs have been threatening our democratic institution and subverting the will of Oregon voters who know we need to act now. Their walkout has come at immense cost to our institution and potentially the planet.”

L@@ks like even the families are being threatened. And this article states the walk-out type tykes could be fined, daily...

Big oopsie moment...
Thursday, Democrats continued to insist the bill is dead.

“I think the senate president made it clear from the podium the house bill isn’t moving forward this session,” Senator Sara Gelser said. According to her, “there is nothing else we can do besides say that.”
So, can it be directly presumed that the (R) walk out WORKED?
