Shootin' bees!

Post by Gramps »

Image

Been out back shootin' bees using a garage sale pump up Daisy BB gun at carpenter bees eating the wood under the patio cover out back with the wife!
We are using the daisy as muzzle loader with table salt. Having a blast! 20 or more confirmed dead bees out of 30 or so shots. These little boogers are fast!
Anyway, we have the load the and technique that works for us now..
The picture shows what we used:
The long blue thing is an older and heavy coat hanger straightened out with painters tape on it, a glob on the end for tamping the wad and shot just small enough for the .177 Cal bore.
The pink and blue thing is a small funnel made from a post it note rolled up with painters tape the hold it together.
The spoon things are are measuring spoons. We used the 1/4 teaspoon and guessed for a 3/4 of a 1/4 teaspoon as or shot of Morton table salt.
Wad before the shot is a narrow strip of paper towel with a little spit tamped in on a closed bolt.
We also tamped the shot (salt) with the ramrod which helped a lot for holding the shot together for a longer range shot.
Max bee kill was 20ft or so.
Anyway.......... We had a blast!

If you can hit those the murder hornets should be easy!
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

Sounds like some fun. Unfortunately, the photo link appears to be broken on my end however your description reminds me of this video of 22Plinkster on youtube a while back, but he was using CCI shot shells:

We have found Epson salt is a better shot. It is much courser than table salt.
Also we cut the load by a third which I think helped a lot in the time we had to test it.
Lot of dead bees here but still a lot of wood eaters to shoot.
Made a new funnel from a small part of a pop can. Works a lot better.

The hovering bees you are shooting are the drones. They have no interest in your wood. They are just waiting for a female to show up.

Fun while it lasted! I think the salt worked on the Daisy, the BB gun won't launch the projectile (salt) out the barrel.

You could always just buy a salt (assault) rifle. My daughter bought me one from Rural King, loaded it with a bit of salt and it's quite deadly out to 3-4 feet.
