On the night of 4/23/17 we went to bed early. It was cold so the windows were closed. Around 10:15 we heard gunshots - loud, close. I thought I counted 5. Soon after, I looked out the window and didn't see much happening. The phone rang. My neighbor called. The police were called. A camera system recorded video of what went down outside.
We have had a problem house on our street for several years. Cars and people coming and going in a never ending parade of people, not from our block. Rap music, general noise, and commotion in what is an otherwise quiet, peaceful, neighborhood. Up until now it's only been a nuisance. Last night, a group was congregating around a vehicle in the street. One black male of the group started walking away quickly eastbound on the sidewalk toward the corner. The vehicle then sped by him, stopped at the corner, and fired two shots west toward the walker at roughly 15 yards away. The walker fired two shots east at the vehicle which sped away north. The walker appeared un-hit as he slowly walked back to the problem house. Cars started leaving, three of them in succession. They missed the 2 responding squad cars by 30 seconds. The cars lit the house up, but by then it was dark inside and they were gone.
After getting the info on the, what and where, LE looked around for evidence. Unfortunately, they failed to notice that one car had pulled back into the driveway of the house. The police left without questioning them. All this happened between my corner and three doors down. There is video being shared with LE. I'm not at liberty to share it online, but if you see me, I'll show you sometime.
I've lived at this address for 24 years. I've been carrying for 10 of those. This is the closest situation yet involving gunfire, although last November, a 12 hour manhunt for a serial car thief did end in my driveway, but no shots were fired, and he wasn't armed apparently. But I digress. I've gathered some info via the county auditors website, and will seek to put pressure on the absentee owner and their bank going forward. This will probably be a long, drawn out fight, but they have to go somehow. It's not fair to the people who actually live here.
So that's the situation. I haven't been posting much lately, but I've been around. Life has been mostly good in Muxville until this.
