Hilliard PD A+

Post by techguy85 »

My (future) wife Jennifer called me around 10:30 last night to come provide some advice and temporary security for one of her friends who is dealing with a creepy stalker rapy guy who they were afraid was hanging around her apartment and/or coffee hangout.
After talking with her and telling her she needed to call the police and see if they would escort her home and take a look around for Mr. creepy, we then proceeded to wait ~35 minutes for Hilliard to have an officer available to come talk with her.
The officer was a young woman and was very helpful. She cracked a joke when I notified that I was armed, “If you don’t take yours out I won’t get mine out either." I understand some of you on here aren't fond of this kind of statement from an officer and while I see where you are coming from I don't mind as it feels mostly like a way to relieve tention or make light of notification.
After discussing a protection order and trespassing him from the coffee shop, the officer agreed to follow Jennifer’s friend to her apartment to make sure she got home safely, telling her that if she saw him around her apartment she should call 911. I was going to put my ID and CHL away but told the officer I was going to reach for my wallet because I didn’t want her to misinterpret my movement.
Me: Officer, I am going to reach into my back right pocket for my wallet if that is alright.
Her: No problem.
Me: I just didn’t want you to think I was reaching for my firearm.
Her: No problem, I appreciate your cooperation; (to the other people) look how responsible he is. We need more people like him.

The night ended as well as could be expected under the circumstances. Big shout out to the nice Hilliard Police Officer for being so understanding and providing this young woman an escort home. I sent a compliment to the Hilliard Chief this morning.
Last but not least, a little funny about the evening: halfway through the wait, the young lady asked, "Is it like a pizza delivery, can I call and cancel the order?" Kids these days...
