Dan,
?? I'm sort of lost on this. So if trapped in traffic to the point of having to injure a person not involved to get away in the truck, AND currently being physically challenged by spinal surgery, And feeling something may have been going to happen due to this idiot acting like he may be on drugs?? Your advise to me was to do what. ???? please don't say I should not do something and then drop it. Please explain how you would handle the situation so we can all learn from it. I'm not challenging you I'm wanting input here. Take all the time you need to think about it. I had an entire second or maybe two with an idiot screaming at me less than 36 inches away. It was not a road rage condition either.
I also started thinking about the OT mention. I feel like I need to put in a sorry about teasing Jeff some about the undertakers up above. So if it offended any of you all I'm sorry and if you are cheesed about my going OT I'm also sorry. I'll keep myself in check, I hope, from now on.
How stupid are people these days??

First of all, Willy, we can't criticize you too much because it all turned out fine!
Prevention wise, always try not be be "trapped" in traffic. Make a habit to leave a half to a full car length ahead of you when stopped. Leave that "out" to go for if threatened. However, that's not always possible.
You did well for a few seconds of threat. Now come up with something more thought out. Here's some ideas:
-Get your hand on your gun for quick access without showing it. The threat may correctly interpret this while still having some doubt in his mind that you were armed.
-Pull out the cell phone. Sometimes this may get their attention and stop the stupidity. On the other hand, they may laugh at you and/or escalate. At any rate, it would look good in court to explain that you first tried to "scare" them with calling the cops. When that didn't work you then went to the next logical step up the ladder.
-Unless he has a firearm, is throwing injurious stuff, or has a pole arm that can reach you, you aren't in much danger until he opens his door. That might be a better "cue" to start to go "tactical" on him, and probably would be quite logical to explain in court as to why you "escalated" by mentioning or showing a gun.
Again, just ideas. You made it through okay. No damage, no arrest! Very good.

Thanks Karl,
I always try and leave room ahead. Not everyone allows that all the time though. In town bumper to bumper rush hour sucks, and being polite enough to let others out of side streets hinders that at times also.
I never took either hand off the wheel as the guy never left the truck and I was far enough out of reach that I felt safe at that point. My limited arc of head movement range left his buddy that was driving out of my sight at the time and I am 100 percent sure neither could see the little 905 I had on my right side properly uncovered .
I never headed for the cell but it is a good thought. I honestly wanted my right hand for steering with both or for the spyderco I had sticking out of my right pocket. I was a ways away from the go to guns area in my mind. His getting out of their truck and going for my door or trying to reach inside my window area would have determined what I would have done.
With the exception of what your line of thought suggested to me as far as touching or nearing my firearm and the cell phone addition it seems we were pretty much on the same page really. Except for my mentioning my being allowed to be armed in public. Also you need to understand my gun training/ upbringing. I was taught to never point or touch a firearm I did not intend to use or that I needed to clean. I was not ready at that point to need a firearm and turn it into a weapon.
You need to understand I might be a little jumpy as the plate where C6 used to be is inside my neck with 4 big screws and a spacer where they cut that vertebra out, so it popping apart would be a bit of a bummer for me. It has only had a little under 3 months to grow enough bone to hold the screws in well and Monday afternoon was the first I was allowed to go without a brace on my neck since surgery back in the middle of July. would that be disparity of force? Maybe that is the wrong legal term?
My take on what I did was a public service announcement that someone quicker to go to guns than I am due to higher nervousness might have been pointing something at him or setting it off already. I was not following the first rule of Tom " it's not my job to teach them" I'm filing that one away in my heads rusty hard drive.
It is good to sit and work this all out on paper for future times and I'm sure it helps others with decisions they may have to make or fore go in the future. That is what this area is for if I understand it correctly.

I think Safety Guy about covered it.
When asked "whats wrong with you old man," a simple "nothing" would have sufficed without adding the part about a handgun.
If nothing else, you gave away your tactical advantage had they really been out to cause harm.
