The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced the introduction of new legislation to amend the Criminal Code and the Firearms Act to make communities safer while respecting law-abiding gun owners. Through the proposed legislation and other measures, the government would:
*Combat intimate partner and gender-based violence, and self-harm involving firearms by creating “red flag” and “yellow flag” laws. These laws would allow people, such as concerned friends or relatives, to apply to the courts for the immediate removal of an individual’s firearms, or to ask a Chief Firearms Officer to suspend and review an individual’s licence to own firearms.
*Fight gun smuggling and trafficking by increasing criminal penalties, and by enhancing the capacity of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Canada Border Services Agency to combat the illegal importation of firearms.
*Help create safer communities by supporting municipalities that ban handguns through by-laws restricting storage and transportation in their jurisdictions. Individuals who violate these municipal by-laws would be subject to federal penalties, including licence revocation and criminal sanctions.
*Give young people the opportunities and resources they need to avoid criminal behaviour by providing funding to municipalities and Indigenous communities to support youth programs.
*Protect Canadians from gun violence by creating new offences for altering the cartridge magazine component of a firearm and depicting violence in firearms advertising, introducing tighter restrictions on imports of ammunition, and ensuring the prohibition of imports, exports, sales, and transfers of all replica firearms.
*Complete the prohibition of assault-style firearms to ensure these weapons cannot be legally used, transported, sold, transferred, or bequeathed by individuals in Canada. We also intend to move forward with a buyback program in the coming months to support the safe removal of these firearms from our communities.
These measures are part of a broader firearms strategy to increase public safety and build upon previous legislation and policies already in place. This includes the ban on assault-style firearms, significant funding to provinces and territories to combat gun and gang violence, and investments in border security to tackle firearms smuggling.
Ensure mid-velocity 'replica' firearms are prohibited
Update the Criminal Code to ensure that any device, including an unregulated airgun that looks exactly like a conventional regulated firearm (i.e., shoots over 500 feet per second), is prohibited for the purposes of import, export, sale and transfer.
For the handgun bans, keep in mind all Handguns are classified as 'restricted' and owners must have a PAL (Possession and acquisition license) to own one in Canada.

Since Biden is using an extremely high number of Executive Actions, and receiving little push back, I wouldn’t be surprised if they went that route. Perhaps after some event. I’m guessing a revival of the AWB 1994 won’t cut it, and they will push for registration and restrictions.
With the state of the GOP and NRA, I don’t see much pushback. The Anti-2A forces will take advantage of that fact, and pick the correct time to really move the ball down the filed. Once registration is in place, it will be permanent.

They're actually illegal. The executive branch can't create law by executive order.
Any change would require both houses of legislature to pass legislation.
I expect lots of pushback, because not just conservatives own guns.

One thing that we saw under Trump was the power of the deep-state. Although I agree with you that Biden way over-stepped his legal bounds, that doesn’t mean much when the deep-state is pushing their agenda, supported by a compliant media, and receiving very little pushback. We know we can’t rely on John Roberts. And the Dems in Congress are begging Biden to their work for them via executive action. As has been said many times, elections have consequences.
Trump signed 6 executive orders in his first week, spawning #resistance and Democracy Dies in the Dark from the media. Biden signs 37 in his first week and “yawn.”
I’m not raising the white flag here, I’m pointing out that 2A folks are on their own now.

A lawsuit making a “unique” allegation against gun manufacturer Smith & Wesson on behalf of victims of Toronto’s deadly 2018 Danforth shooting has gotten the green light to proceed to the next stage by Ontario’s Superior Court.
Released this week by Justice Paul Perell, the decision means the $150-million lawsuit filed in 2019 is one step closer to class action certification

If Canada sues US gun manufacturers out of business, Biden won't have to do it.
"that the gun was from the United States and had been obtained from a "gang-related source"
So the 'nutjob' (per his parents, acquaintances, etc.. ) bought a gun on the black market, that was illegally smuggled into the country, and the manufacturer that had nothing to do with supplying him the firearm is somehow at fault ?

It's simple really. Would you rather choke the firearms industry off by the way of banking (credit cards, corporate accounts) and internet access (IoT and Marketing via Amazon Web Services) and the trial bar (product liability lawyers/lawsuits) in a way that most American don't see OR would you rather try to just run right out and take guns away from 100 million ticked off American citizens?
Bingo.
Once you force the gun and ammunition industry into heavy regulation to save their business, you then use the same technique via "smart gun" technology and "gun owner insurance" to go after the American gun owner. "Oh, you don't have smart gun technology on your guns? That will cost more in insurance". "Oh, you own an AR-15, we no longer provide insurance for those and you need insurance. The last AR-15 insurer went out of business due to liability lawsuits and your gun is registered with that insurer too".
You could get all that done in one Presidential term easy, especially with 2A folks arguing over private business vs utility bull pucky. Yep, you can just start another Twitter...see how well that worked for Paler. We are playing checkers and they are playing chess.

I reckon in that strain, the South could sue Colt and Remington for supplying arms to the North. Japan and Germany could sue Springfield Armory and North Korea could sue International Harvester.
