SPRINGFIELD — A customer at the Mad River Armory and Range in Springfield shot himself in the leg Wednesday evening in what is being investigated as an accident, police said

Police were dispatched to the range, 309 E. Leffel Lane, about 7:15 p.m. on a report of a shooting.

The man, whose name and age were not immediately available, was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center, then flown to Miami Valley Hospital by helicopter, police said.
Fortunitely the only victim of his negligence was himself and not someone else using the range.

If memory serves they have a part of that range used only by "advanced" members, who have taken X amount of training there. Those members are allowed to work from a holster, concealed or open.

No idea if that factors in or not. I'm certainly not against the practice in general. But you got to exercise caution every single time!

I'm a member there and it's a very well run range. There is a small range for more individual training but usually has a range officer/instructor there. The ND probably happened in the large A or B ranges. Unfortunate that this would happen.

I'm curious as to what the gun was also but regardless safe handling didn't appear to happen either way. IDK what it was but my guess it wasn't a DA revolver, unless the victim's first name is Barney.

Massad Ayoob had an ND with a double action revolver during a class not all that long ago.
