New article by Mises: "Australia's Gun Laws and Homicide: Correlation Isn't Causation"
https://mises.org/wire/australias-gun-l ... -causation" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
In the wake of the March 15 New Zealand shootings, advocates for new gun restrictions in New Zealand have pointed to Australia as "proof" that if national governments adopt gun restrictions like those of Australia's National Firearms Agreement, then homicides will go into steep decline.
Faced with a lack of evidence that 1996's law caused Australia to follow the same trend in homicides as both the US and Canada, advocates for laws like Australia's then fall back on the strategy of pointing out that Australia's homicide rates are lower than the US's. The problem with this strategy, of course, is that Australia's homicide rates were not comparable to those in the US either before or after 1996. The causes of the difference in rates between the two countries obviously pre-dates modern gun regulation measures in both countries. (We might also point out that several US states — some of which have very lax gun laws — have very low homicide rates comparable to Australia's.)
Attempts to explain this away have been numerous, and in many ways, justifying gun control policy has come down to endless attempts at using regression analysis to find correlations between gun policy and homicide rates. These can often be interesting, but their value often rests on finding the right theoretical framework with which to identify the most important factors.
Those who work in public policy, and who lack a good foundation in broader issues around criminality tend to just go directly to legal prohibitions as the key factor in homicide rates.

Liberty is the soul's right to breathe, and when it cannot take a long breath, laws are girdled too tight.

And don't just carry, but practice of some kind on a regular basis, even if it's only dry fire exercises. Hopefully the day will never come when you need it, but it you do need it you should be proficient in it's use. I'll admit that until yesterday it had been a while since I had any actual live fire practice due to winter, but I made up for that yesterday. I mixed up the practice too, practiced various ranges, various time limits. The wind even made one of my targets a shifting target too.BEAR! wrote:The video is posted on The Charles Carroll Society website. It is sick and disgusting but it will make you carry 24/7 if you don't already.

Mosque terrorist was wrongly granted firearms licence due to police mistakes. So even though it was a screw-up by the police the govt is taking everyone else's guns away..

The March 15 terrorist was wrongly granted a firearms licence due to a string of police failures, sources have told Stuff.
The terrorist, who pleaded guilty to New Zealand's worst mass shooting in March, was not properly inspected by police vetting staff when he applied for a firearms licence in 2017.
Stuff has been told that, among other errors, police failed to interview a family member as required, instead relying on two men who met the terrorist through an internet chatroom.
The error was overlooked when police granted him the firearms licence, allowing the Australian citizen to stockpile the semi-automatic guns later used to murder 51 people.
Semi-autos already banned, so lever actions and pump shotguns next ? similar to Australia's bans ?The wrongful licensing of the terrorist was the result of a firearms control regime that was destroyed by years of mismanagement by police, a police source told Stuff.
Sources said police districts had for years underfunded their arms offices and cut staff that managed firearms licence applications; numerous projects to improve the firearms licensing system were planned at police headquarters, only to be halted before they began; and both police arms officers and underpaid vetting staff were pushing through licence applications without proper scrutiny.
The revelations come as Parliament votes on a second round of firearms reform law this week, after urgently banning semi-automatic weapons in the week after the terror attack.

Police, however, said the correct process had been followed.
A spokesperson said they had made extensive inquiries into the process the accused went through in attaining a firearms licence, and the vetting was carried out by a vetting officer in Dunedin.

Big Surprise Alert: Gun crimes are up after the "assault weapons" ban.
The government's clampdown on firearms and seizures of high-powered semi-automatic weapons has had no impact on a rise in gun crime and violence in New Zealand.
And the biggest non-surprise:But in 2020, gun crime hit a new peak.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern told Morning Report rising firearms crime since the Christchurch mosque attack strengthen resolve to introduce firearms reform.
https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/438 ... ror-attack"That includes things like creating a gun register, which we continue work on in earnest, increasing penalties, as well as of course the buy-back."
