Sheriff Israel is, indeed, a snake. Nobody likes to think this is possible but could Israel have been purposely letting Cruz do his own thing in the hopes that his department could catch/eliminate a bad guy then go on the campaign to "ban assault weapons
?" Keep that in mind as you read about Israel's background and previous complaints against him and his department. Also keep in mind that ALL sheriff's are politicians first - law enforcement officers second.
Israel has been the subject of 10 internal affairs complaints, mainly for excessive force, although he was cleared in all of them. He served a stint as a SWAT commander and was North Bay Village chief of police from 2004 to 2008, but left to run for sheriff in 2008 and 2012. Israel eventually won in 2012, and easily won re-election in 2016.
Israel has historically been vocal concerning gun violence, opposing open-carry legislation and one law that would allow concealed weapons on campuses.
This isn’t the first time Israel’s agency has encountered trouble over its response to a mass shooting. Months after the Greater Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport shooting, a 2017 Sun-Sentinel investigation revealed that Israel’s Broward Sheriff’s Office failed to “seize control and set up an effective command system” at the airport. BSO “erred from the very beginning in controlling the shooting scene in the baggage claim area of Terminal 2, where five people died and six others were wounded.” The reason, cited in a 99-page draft report by the agency itself, mentioned the sheriff’s office’s aging radio system, which garbled communications among officers, forcing police to improvise with “hand signals, runners and cellphones.”
In 2013, one of Israel's deputies shot an African-American kid who was listening to music through his ear-buds and carrying a rifle. The deputy was charge with murder and convicted in 2015. He has won the first appeal under the Stand-Your-Ground law in Florida. This case isn't over yet but...
Three months after the shooting, Israel awarded Peraza and another deputy the agency's Gold Cross award for their conduct that day, recognition that Young wants taken away.
The awards were given "prematurely" and the agency will make a decision about them after the criminal case is closed, Israel said earlier this year.

There is a lot more information to the text from this article than we may realize. This comment in this article may be rather revealing about Israel's operating paradigm.
As he enters his fourth year in office, Israel has turned out to be a pleasant surprise. He backs body cameras. He supported a marijuana decriminalization ordinance that allows deputies to issue $100 fines instead of hauling suspects to jail. His agency has shown a compassionate touch dealing with juveniles, the homeless and the mentally ill, while maintaining a firm grip on law and order.
Read the above quote again and see if you don't notice what I do.
1) Where is the body-cam imagery from the deputies that waited outside the school; if they had them?
2) He is a typical liberal-gun-grabbing-democrat. They would rather legalize drugs and ban guns.
3) He had lots if information on Cruz who was, allegedly, showing signs of mental apparitions and issuing threats. Yet he and his department did nothing. From the outset, Cruz could have been charged with making threats, which is a crime in all states.

Israel was really putting up a smoke screen to conceal his incompetence the other day by attacking Dana Loesch. Let's see if it continues to work.
