The BATF(E) is like the Klan. It fades away for a while, but it always comes back, doing the same things which caused it to fade away in the first place. The only real difference is that they never actually get punished for what they do, Fast & Furious being a case in point. Of course you COULD say that some of them have been punished for F&F... the whistleblowers exclusively. It's kind of like the government prosecuting Joe Velacci, but not any of the mobsters he informed on. Probably a comparison unfair (and marginally libelous) to the Cosa Nostra of the 1950s. Certainly no director of the BATF(E) has ever had the leadership skill of "Lucky" Luciano.
Life comes at you fast. Be prepared to shoot it in the head when it does.
