Buffalo Mass Shooting was a hate crime

Post by drc »

The mass shooting in Buffalo was a hate crime.

There is a news website in the UK that I read that reports what is not reported here in the states.

It was a 18 year old kid that once again, was known to have made threats, had issues, etc.
Payton Gendron, 18, was investigated by the New York State Police for threating to shoot his classmates during graduation in June 2021
Police suggested mental health evaluation and counseling

Bookmark the website, as you can get information from it, that is denied here in the states.

If even half the stuff in the dailymail link is true, apparently NY's red flag law didn't work, or nobody bothered to tell anyone what they're telling the news media now. :(

https://spectrumlocalnews.com/nys/centr ... -flag--law" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The anti gunners will not only misuse this for more promotion of anti guns laws, particularly against rifles, even though the guy could've done similar carnage with some handguns or shotguns.
(never let facts get in the way of an emotional argument  ) Some of them will also misuse this as a way of saying "citizens being allowed to conceal carry wouldn't have worked, because there was a trained security guard and retired cop there and he couldn't stop the guy so that means you can't do it either." ) I actually heard similar BS to this at a school board meeting on whether school staff should be allowed to carry, exact quote:

"Statistics say highly trained police only hit their target 25-35% of the time so what chance would a teacher have?"

According to news accounts the guard did hit the suspect twice but the vest stopped the bullets. Why the guard chose to even shoot there is strange, because it's obvious the guy was wearing body armor and a ballistic helmet. A highly skilled civilian shooting a .22 lr to the guys face or neck or even below the vest would've been more effective than 2 to the chest than a .44 magnum to the chest or abdomen from someone else.

In any given year in America, 99.7% of all Handguns and 99.9% of all Shotguns & Rifles are not involved in ANY sort of crime whatsoever.
Source: FBI & BATF Data

And yet, Democrats are so bad at math that they think GUNS are the problem.

More Gun Control = More Crime

Gun Free Zones = Criminal Protection Zones

After I heard the initial news story I thought here it comes, more calls for gun control, particularly against rifles, and how CC is somehow useless for anyone because there was an ex cop/guard there who could see the guy was wearing body and yet still fired 2 rounds center mass, and I am hearing some calls for gun control but most of what I'm hearing on Monday mn on the news are calls for restrictions on social media instead.

In addition, on the CBS mn news, they interviewed a black civil rights attorney who is saying that this and other white on black mass shootings shows that "anti black hate crime legislation" needs to be passed. He didn't mention gun control at all.

I didn't see anything in the DailyMail article about this:
Later in the manifest, the shooter insists, “I would prefer to call myself a populist. But you can call me an ethno-nationalist eco-fascist national socialist if you want, I wouldn’t disagree with you.” He also repeatedly attacks capitalists, and rejected the conservative label because, he wrote, “conservativism is corporatism in disguise, I want no part of it.

We were talking about this yesterday, where a group of us shoot together most Sundays. Several drills involved transitioning to head shots, even one hand only. Of course, getting yourself and loved ones the heck out of Dodge might be better, but that's not always possible.
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

Gun control will be crowed for but go nowhere in the end. What will also come out of this is a call for the ban on the sale of (or maybe even private ownership of) body armor, ballistic helmets, etc... to private individuals and that might go somewhere.

The media has inaccurately (falsely) reported so many times regarding these incidents that body armor was worn, but it wasn't. So I still don't take that as factual this time, either.

Oh I knew it was coming, I was just surprised that the MSM didn't lead with it, and certain politicians are willing to misuse this tragedy to attack the 1st amendment along with the 2nd. :(

Someone said to me yesterday that this mass shooting proves the need for government oversight and control, maybe even shutting down certain sites completely. Of course she also mentioned guns, she always does. I didn't argue with her, I instead agreed with her. She was surprised and I said the reason was a while back I had heard about an organization and was curious to just check out their website. I read vile hate filled messages and people freely talking about how some innocent people should be killed simply on the basis of a certain color, and how that talk disgusted me. I was concerned that someone reading this would be radicalized enough to actually carry out this garbage, and if the government shuts downs sites then this site and others like it should be the first site shut down, IMO.

She seemed very happy that I had come over to her way of thinking, and asked me what the name of the site was. I told her it was Black Lives Matter. She didn't believe me that this stuff was on their site and said I was exaggerating. I told her that I had screenshots saved of comments like "Pigs in a blanket" , "What do we want? Dead cops. When do we want them? Now!" There was a comment posted at the time about turning all the boys in blue red (as in blood)

It's not just anti cops either, there was a post about a white civilian who shot someone trying to commit a crime against him, and someone called for revenge against "vigilantes" All of the "vigilante" examples mentioned were black people getting shot by non black people. I guess if you're black and shoot another black person you're good in their eyes. :( She said that even if some people did post this stuff on the website, it doesn't mean the organization and all the other people that belong to it support murder of innocent people merely because of posts of a few people, that the other people have legitimate grievances and their right to free speech should be protected. She also said it was wrong to condemn a whole group of people because of the bad actions or words of a mere few.

In this particular case though from the pictures it's obvious that the guy was wearing body armor. In addition he allegedly taunted law enforcement months back and mentioned body armor in his post. :(

They're now finding his notes where he's been staking out and planning the grocery store shooting and other places for months, and had an encounter with the same security guard he shot on Sunday. This is one reason why civilian concealed carry is important. Instead of having just one known target for the active shooter he has to potentially defend himself against anyone, from any direction. Not just my opinion, I participated in a force on force active shooter exercise with real people and when the attacker doesn't know in advance where the danger is coming from, and maybe multiple trained shooters from different angles at the same time, it's very difficult for him. When I say "trained" I don't just mean being able to shoot mere center of mass at 5 yards on a static target on a square range, like most CCW classes. If it's obvious or if you suspect body armor you shouldn't waste time and rounds just pumping bullets into the chest stomach or back, even if it is the largest target. If you can't hit the neck or head, there is plenty of real estate below the belt, including the thighs. It won't immediately incapacitate the active shooter but it's a heck of a lot better than wasting rounds hitting body armor.
There have been mass shootings that have been documented to have been stopped or interfered with simply because the active shooter got wounded.

Everyone has a plan until they get shot in the face. (paraphrasing Mike Tyson)

I think that a lot depends on where the defender is when a shooting starts. If I'm just a customer in the back of a store and a mass shooting starts in the front, for me to go forward and try to confront the shooter might only make things worse. There's going to be police response, maybe other concealed carriers who won't know who you are and you won't know if you see them if they're other defenders or an accomplice of the active shooter. My best options are like you said, getting my loved ones and myself out. OTOH, if the active shooting starts near where I'm at my best option for survival might be to take cover and try to take out the active shooter. I don't want to sound paranoid but sometimes I've gone to a store and when shopping or doing an exercise walk in the winter, look around me and think, "if something bad were to happen right now, where is the nearest concealment or cover? Where are the nearest exits, even if they do say "employees only" ? What part of the store is my wife likely in, compared to where I'm at? It might not even be a shooter it might be a fire or something, so knowing where things are could be important. It's not paranoia it just situational awareness.

Someone was trying to sell his tactical classes once made a statement to some prospective customer that you're either a sheepdog or a sheep. If I'm going to be compared to an animal I prefer a porcupine, and an aged one at that.

And that will be really sad, because I know civilian non LE people who use soft body armor when doing church security. If the guy who tried to draw down badly on a guy with a shotgun during a church shooting had been wearing soft body armor he'd still be alive today. I once met a person working retail who wasn't allowed to carry a gun on the job but he was allowed to wear soft body armor under his shirt. (There are potentially millions of people working retail that fit this same category.)
It saved his life one day. Despite completely complying the criminal shot him anyway, and shot him in the back also after he decided to run out the back door. Yes he ended up with a couple of nasty bruises but was otherwise okay. If he had been allowed to be armed he could've easily shot back. Regardless though he lived through it.

Don't forget the walmart incident where the concealed carrier went to confront the shooter, only to be shot in the back of the head by the shooters girlfriend/wife. So yeah number 1 for me is exit strategy.
