First time I've heard of a resource officer actually engaging in a shootout with a student.

Waukesha South High School in Milwaukee was put on lockdown around 10am when a school resource officer received information that a student had a gun.

Just before 11am, Waukesha police tweeted that shots had been fired inside the school.

A student told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that about 20 minutes after the lockdown they heard about three gunshots.

Those gunshots were fired during an exchange between the student and a school resource officer. There were no immediate reports of fatalities.
