In response to House Bill 17 – Firearm Violence and Suicide Prevention Amendments, the Utah Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health (DSAMH), in conjunction with the Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI), is offering a limited, one-time rebate for one firearm safe. The rebate is valid for up to 50% of the pre-tax sales amount, not to exceed $100.00.
A firearm safe is defined as:
A gun safe, gun case, lock box, or other device;
Is designed to fully contain one or more firearm;
Has the ability to be securely locked and unlocked by means of a key, combination, or other similar means; and
Excludes glass and/or wooden gun cabinets.
This amendment supports the Utah Suicide Prevention Coalition’s “IS YOUR SAFETY ON?” campaign and its efforts in firearm suicide prevention. Eighty-six percent of firearms deaths in Utah are suicides. Utah ranks fifth in the nation in suicide deaths. Putting time and distance between a person at risk of suicide and a firearm may save a life. Together we can protect our family and friends.
