I would guess that his popularity has sunk since he came out of the closet as a gun grabber.
Well, there are different kinds of popularity, you know.
Being popular with the network news channels and being popular with the voters are two entirely separate things.
Just ask Hillary,... her and the media started to believe their own lies about the popularity polls that she would win big time.

To bolster Chuck's point that there are different types of popularity...

Popularity with the media is a little bit different these days.
The media isn't the gatekeeping power structure it once was.
Ron Paul's candidacy was some measure of popular (big crowds, dedicated internet groundswell), but Trump seems to be breaking the mold wide open, which is ironic as he's a reality show superstar. To have a reality star be the one who breaks the media popularity myth, is something people will discuss for a while. Both Paul and Trump had "no chance of winning" (language warning)...eventually people stopped listening in large enough numbers....and Trump could fund his ambitions without paying for media time.

Ron Paul suffered from the Paulbots too...they did more harm than good, and he never told them to cut out their crap.
