Geauga County and Erie, PA

I stopped in Saturday morning for my first renewal. I was in and out in 20 minutes. My original permit is from Lorain. Geauga County requires a copy of your training certificate, which they allow you to bring in when you pick up.

I was in Erie with my brother in law and we both applied for our PA permits in 20 minutes from the Erie Sheriff. There is a short application to fill out and they charge $20. No problem and very friendly. They sent our permits to us in a week.

Welcome to the forums. For what it is worth, Geauga is adding requirements that the law does not require. A concealed carry license, valid or expired, is proof that you have met the training requirements. No need to show your certificate for a renewal.

When I renewed in Geauga, the only requirement was my old license and an application (plus the money of course). :)

I assume your first license was in Geauga also. I went through the same BS when I renewed in Geauga, since my first license was in Medina. Took twelve days for the call, which I thought was a bit long from what I have heard. Going to pick it up in the morning. Since my first one was in a different county, they also required address since I was eighteen, which is also against what the ORC says. They told me that since I was renewing in a different county, they treated it as a new issue, which I thought was BS, but I didn't argue since my CHL expired on 1/5/14.

You're right the first was in Geauga. The Geauga sheriff is very pro concealed carry, so if they are making up the law, I would think a call to the sheriff would be in order. I can't believe that he would not fix the problem.

Geauga required a copy of the training certificate as my first license came from Lorain county. I got the call today that the license is ready. Exactly 1 week. I'll wait until the weather subsides before I pick up.

Again, Geauga is adding requirements that are not in the law. Your original license is proof of the fact that you met the training requirements, even if it is a new license for them to issue, it is still a renewal of your previous license.
