A little try at organizing. Lets hear yours.

Yesterday I turned in my Renewal Application with a picture (I took myself and printed out at home) and color copies of the Training certs. The un-uniformed female "office manager?" was very friendly and knew what she was doing. Took digital prints of all didgits. Asked several verbal questions, they were on the application but she said they also need to be answered verbaly. Took my cash and gave me a receipt.
Mercer County has it in control.
Now we will see how long it takes.

Took all my documents in on 2-14-08. Guy in front of me in line was handicapped, and she was extraordinarily patient with him. When she got to me, she reviewed everything; she asked a question about one (1) box I had checked. I told her I had lived outside the country for approximately nine (9) months, and while they were more than free to check, were I lived and worked was not an English –speaking area. She said “No problem.”

I did ask for a ballpark estimate about how long the process would take until I received my renewal license. Deputy said about 30 days. This is consistent with the data on CCW When website.

I was in their office yesterday as well (little after 1500), and couldn't have had a better experience.

While in the process of renewing my Ohio, I had them do the fingerprint card and notorize the signature for my Florida renewal at the same time. Was in and out in maybe 15 minutes.

Gave them an application downloaded (and filled out) from the Attorney General's website, my training certificates (they made copies), a passport photo from CVS, answered a couple questions and handed them $55.00.

I'll be going to Ashtabula County (N.E.corner of Ohio) within two weeks for my renewal and I'll let you know how it goes. The initial license in 04 was a breeze there.

Greene and Montgomery not taking old certificates

I have already spoken to several students that have told me that Greene and Montgomery does not want to accept the first certificates. They want every one to re certify!! I know the law states at its good for 6 years but what is up. Has anyone else run into this?

There was someone a while back saying that the Sheriff wanted a certificate that would be good for the duration that the license was valid. Not sure what the point of that is though since you can renew your certification!

OK........I'm completely out of the loop. It's about time for me to renew...What do I need to take with me?

I see people talking about forms. I can honestly say I don't have a clue where my forms are. Wouldn't the Sheriff's office have these on file from my initial license?
Thanks for any info you can help with!

I would check with your County Sheriff's Office first to see if he has any "special rules". But basically you will need everything that you used when you originally applied. And no the Sheriff cannot use or allow you to even see any of your file, the only thing he should have in that file, by law, is the original application that you turned in.

Rifleman/All - I know the above is a hearsay - but it is important to be careful with this type of information. I spoke to both the Greene and Montgomery County folks this morning and they both state that as long as the certificate is within 6 years for the renewal, they will accept it.

Before anybody questions the clarification method, I blindly called them so they didn't know who I/we were and asked the requirements for renewal, both representatives (PM for details) are renewing as requred.

Happy Renewing!!

Had an appointment in Franklin County to renew at 9am yesterday morning. Was in and out in 10 minutes. Exactly 24 hours later they called for me to come and get it. That took all of 2 minutes. Absolutely nothing to complain about. They did a great job and I told them so.

Why the impatience with a renewal? I turned in my "stuff" to the Summit Co sheriff yesterday and wouldn't care if they didn't call until the day before my license expires. Sooner ya get the renewal, the sooner you have to renew in five years. Applied early (about 70 days) to avoid the certain glut of renewals in April/May.

2/28-received phone call from Sheriff's Office. License is ready to pick up. Five days.

Renewing in Geauga County

I went to the Geauga Sheriff on Saturday 2/23. When I called during the week they said they sometimes have a crowd on Saturdays. I got there about 7:45 a.m. and found the waiting room empty. I had to bring a new passport photo, but the deputy didn't want a new application. He asked if anything was changed. I said no. He took my picture and $55 and told me he'd call me in 5-7 days to pick up my new license. As usual Deputy Dewey was courteous.
