Well those signs are now gone and replaced with this...and also a "No alcohol beyond this point" sign not pictured.

I was there tonight. Saw the sign in the most recent pic. Saw plenty of friendly men in t-shirts that said "POLICE". Saw a few motorcycles in the bike show with OSHP logos. Didn't see any identifiable County or Batavia LEO.

Although, the UDF could have used some help with shoplifters. The manager was outside having a discussion with a few that got busted as I was grabbing a 6-pack to take home with me.

The no alcohol part is actually legit. Past the sign would be open container violations as when the BLC gives out temporary alcohol permits for events like this the boundaries are very much set in stone.

As for the signs, maybe my emails or ones in the past from others finally worked. Although I never did get a response to my question of how they (the Village Association of Batavia) were funded besides directly from tax dollars from Batavia.

Info on VAOB, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, but it appears to be a bit outdated:

The problem is it's heavily funded by the Village of Batavia. It's kind of like a larger cities parks departments. Also, they only admit to being a "sponsor" for the Taste of Clermont, not the host. Huge different there IMO and another one I never got a true answer on. Batavia says it's the VAOB that puts it on and therefore they can do as they please. The VAOB admits to only being a sponsor but never answers who the "host" is. Basically, all I ever got was roundabout answers.

Good news is, it appears they came down this year.

Cities/villages have been doing quasi-legal workarounds of the laws regarding funding festivals for years and years. The rules change they just change tactics a bit.

Why go to that trouble when so many festivals bleed money anyhow? Here's an answer: A certain city I know all too well has had a July 4th celebration for eons now. Back in the day it was well attended by residents, not so much by "outsiders". If it happened to be an election year...dig this now...the political party in majority power would use the public address system to page various of their candidates to come to the concession stand, by name. They'd focus on the ones who weren't incumbents, hence not as well known by the citizenry, calling them to the building several times throughout the day. The point was to plant the names in people's heads. Did it work? Probably somewhat.

Corny as that chicanery might seem nowadays, the motivation to fund these gatherings of potential voters remains the same: Have the folks all in one place and show them a good time, in the name of some holiday or even flimsier excuse for a party. Then maybe they'll vote your party back in.
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!
