9mm 1911 Chrono data

Post by Morne »

The other day I was staring at my 9x19mm handload data spreadsheet and realized that I have NEVER checked any of them through the chrono with my 5" 1911. That was all the excuse I needed to go do some shooting (9-round strings of fire, all):

***CHRONY DATA***

60 F, 30.13" Hg, 35%RH

9x19mm Luger 115-gr Delta FMJ @1.155" COAL
Foster 1911 with 5" barrel

W-231 Pistol Powder & CCI-500SPP:
5.1-gr - AVERAGE = 1182 fps - ES = 58 - SD = 20.9

WSF Pistol Powder & Rem 1.5 SPP:
5.6-gr - AVERAGE = 1203 fps - ES = 82 - SD = 25.4

9x19mm Luger 124-gr X-Treme CPRN @1.145" COAL
Foster 1911 with 5" barrel

W-231 Pistol Powder & CCI-500SPP:
4.2-gr - AVERAGE = 1042 fps - ES = 43 - SD = 13.8

9x19mm Luger 128-gr Coated RNFP @1.055" COAL
Foster 1911 with 5" barrel

W-231 Pistol Powder & CCI-500SPP:
4.1-gr - AVERAGE = 1070 fps - ES = 52 - SD = 18.2

These are all perfectly good practice loads and ran my 1911 just fine. I hadn't shot a 1911 in a good while...man I almost forgot how blissful they are to run!

That 124-gr X-Treme with 4.2-gr W-231 and CCI-500 SPP is probably my favorite.

These were the homemade powder coated type (blue, not pink, because I am a cis-hetero-male, yo). I didn't coat them, got them off of a guy on arfcom. Frankly, while they do work fine, they're just not my cup of tea. Some of my semi-auto guns don't like feeding coated bullets for some reason. Thus, I have decided that in the future I will procure only plated for semi-auto rounds. Revolver rounds will be mostly coated (SNS Casting, Brazos, Badman, etc...) with some plated (X-Treme) as well.
