I usually set up my chronometer on my farm in WV but don't get down there often enough. Are there ranges in central OH I can setup? I live just north of Columbus in the Polaris area.

There might be DNR public range near you, but I'd call first and see if they'd let you set up a chrony or not.

Consider me either ignorant or stupid, but what reason would anyone give for NOT allowing someone to set up a chronometer?
Other than needing to safe the line while setting up and taking it down.
My chrony wasn't that far in front of the firing line when I used it.

Some of the ODNR RSOs at the Grand River range get really twitchy when you leave the concrete path down the middle of the range during a cease-fire. I'd want to explain first and ask them what they think.

I agree it shouldn't be a problem, but it sure would stink if the OP has to drive any distance only to find out that he isn't allowed to do what he wants (and should be able to do). That's why I suggest calling first, I personally have never used a DNR public range and have zero experience with the RSO's that staff them.

Offering to run some of the range safety officer's ammo over the chronograph is usually a great way to grease the skids.

I'm guessing it would need to be outdoor range, most indoor you can't go past the shooting position. Delaware is closest to me but currently closed.

Some chronographs don't work well under indoor lighting (especially fluorescent) anyway.

Operate word being "some". Mine did.

Looks like most of the ODNR close at 5 but Dillon is open to 9, anyone been there?

I have, it's run differently than other state ranges as it's actually run by a club out of Newark. They "seem" pretty laid back/casual, and unless some event is going on, not busy - fwiw.

I will add - it's been sometime last year since I was there.

I spoke to the ODNR staff at the Grand River Rifle range last Saturday about this and they indicated that they'd welcome someone bringing their chronometer, so it sounds like I was wrong. I specifically asked if that would be the answer at any of the ODNR ranges and they assured me that this would be consistent across all their ranges.

So, short answer: go for it.

I made it out to Dillon last week and they did let me use my chronometer. Wed evening, I was the only one there.

That hogleg pointing almost exactly perpendicular to down range is a simple and obvious violation of BASIC safety rules at just about ANY gun range anywhere, everywhere. And regardless of how strictly rules are enforced anywhere, it sure as heck should be.

It's also not showing obvious signs of having been cleared either.

Am I nit-picking a picture, perhaps in poor taste? Haha... YES. But please, don't make it so darn easy.
