Fluted Chamber

Post by Dewman »

I'm thinking of getting a new to me rifle in 7.62 but it has a fluted chamber.

Are there any issues with reloading the brass from this rifle or should I just forget it.

I had an HK-91 (7.62x51) several years ago. It featured the fluted chamber, plus threw the ejected brass a country mile. When I could find the cases, they were okay to reload 3 or 4 times.

Ok thanks for the info.

I'm looking at a C308 by CAI.

If the brass is not to bad to reload then this maybe a deal.

Depends on the roller headspace. If they are set correctly you can almost hardly tell the fluted chamber was involved especially with thick military cases.

I don't think I want them to look like gears. But it should be fun to shoot anyway

I have a Cetme (HK91 predecessor) with a fluted chamber and after cleaning the brass, you don't see any of the marks anymore. The only issue I have with mine is that the ejection is so powerful that it puts a small dent in the brass, which got better after putting a deflector on the rifle. I have reloaded (mil spec) brass 5-6 times with no issues.

They tell me that this one was made from the last few parts that centme had. I wonder if a brass catcher would help with the dents

This is the brass deflector http://hkparts.blogspot.com/2010/05/hk- ... -case.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - it only provides protection, a catcher would not prevent the brass from smashing against the steel of the receiver and by that getting dented. The deflector takes a slot of energy out of it and the brass does not fly 60ft anymore, so collecting the brass is not a search and rescue mission, but simply picking it up a few ft away.
