Post by Morne »

Special thanks to Evan Price who gave me a box of handloaded .38 special 158-gr LSWC with 3.5-gr Titegroup and Wolf SPPs to try out. Chrony data:

Taurus 617 2" barrel = avg 629.9 fps; ES 78.6
Taurus 627 4" ported barrel = avg 669.2 fps; ES 98.9
Taurus Gaucho 5.5" barrel = avg 749.2 fps; ES 90.7
Taurus 66 6" barrel = avg 692.4 fps; ES 83.3
Taurus 66 12" barrel = avg 749.7 fps; ES 75.0
Rossi M92 20" barrel = avg 931.6 fps; ES 58.2

Meteorological data 77 F, 73% RH, 30.21" Hg

Hmm, I was hoping for a bit more velocity and a bit less ES.
They shot well for you otherwise, I hope!

Very well!

The snubby had a bit lower impact point than I was expecting but otherwise just fine.

I find the velocity in the 5.5" single-action gun to be interesting. Thoughts on the cause?

Morne, where did you get the 12-inch barreled Taurus Model 66?

I fully plan to pick one of those up if I can find one at a reasonable price. They don't seem to appear all too often.

Chronographs quite often crush all hopes and dreams. Fun-suckers they are.
I like to swap brass... and I'm looking for .32 H&R Mag, .327 Fed Mag, .380 Auto and 10mm. If you have some and would like to swap for something else, send me a note!

I have a saved search on GunBroker for "Taurus Silhouette". There are a couple rimfire guns on there now. Next time a .44 comes up I will get it.

Tighter bore and tighter cylinder gap? Have you every slugged any of them?

I load same bullet and primer in 357 mag with 5.0 of titegroup. Next time I see you I will try to get you some.
Those 38s dint even make Minor PF. I thought they would at least do that. Hmm. Maybe I need to go get me one of them there chronomatographerizers and run some data....
I was expecting more on the same sort that Peter Eick got ten years ago:
