After working 27 years in retail, I sometimes use that word pretty loosely

This is a GREAT letter! I am going to print out a LOT of copies and make sure they make their way into the hands of business owners, especially those who felt pressured into posting the NO GUNS signs. We can't change the minds of all of them, but there are so many who are just plain ignorant of the facts and can certainly be swayed into removing the signs.

Thanks for this letter, I've printed it out and will be making LOTS of copies to hand out or mail to these ignorant business owners who will not get a penny from me as long as their doors are posted.

Yes,
Go ahead and sign it with your name. If there's any correspondence from the business owner back to us (OFCC) our address is on there.

This letter is good, but I was wondering if we could get the website or the name of the "studies" that are quoted. There is a study that says criminals are more likely to pick a place with a posted sign over a place without the sign, and another study showing 98% of incidents were prevented without firing a shot...etc.

If we could actually quote these studies in the letter (with a web link, or a journal notation) this would further qualify the letter.

I personally believe the studies exist, but whenever someone tells me, "Oh yeah...well studies show that gun deaths are blah blah blah" I always ask for the "particular" study they are quoting. They are usually making stuff up.

So we should quote a real study to further enhance our message.

I will try to look some up as well and post them here. (I usually try to help out with a solution to my question as well!)

Thanks,

Dave

The old DNPWA cited several "polls" showing that information. All I can recall now is that one was a Zogby poll. If you do find anything definite, please pass it along to me so I can incorporate it in the letter.

Depending on with whom you are speaking, a Zogby poll isn't worth dookie. I'll spit on your Zogby and raise you two spent .17HMR casings. We need data on actual risks, not what the general population thinks.

A brief Google search led me to these academic studies, and each one has references to further academic studies. They do not directly apply to the case of having an establishment posted and the risks mitigated as such, but the Lott / Landes study comes darn close. Each study outlines how crime rates go UP when guns are restricted in any manner. But we all knew that, didn't we?
