Self Defense Insurance

Post by DOA33 »

I ran across a tweet the other day talking about self defense insurance, it was selling how if you use your firearm in defense that it would cover lawyer fees, court cost, and the super premium level it would cover lost wages and a few other things. After watching the Rittenhouse trail and watching interviews on him relying on donations and pro bono to help pay for everything. I was wondering is it really all that it says and does anyone on here have it? I've been looking at different companies and for the "highest protection" from any of them for one year is running between $300 up to $375.

I have CCW Safe.... it's expensive as hell, but I liked the features so I took the plunge.

Without any shopping around, I know a guy that bought USCCA. He plans to compare others next time around Seems like good advice.

I compared over the weekend 3 different companies and decided to go with USCCA. Seems like they have a good policy and has alot of information ranging from self defense to mass shootings to medical open to the members.

One of the reasons I went with CCW Safe despite the cost was because they pay up front. They don't reimburse you once you've been found not guilty.... do others do this? I was under the impression that most reimburse, but maybe I should look around more when renewal time comes.

Thanks for that. If that info is correct, things have really changed... last time I looked into it almost all of them did reimbursement, not pay up front. I'll have to re-evaluate my selection then.

So this seems to still be a limited informative topic. I have been doing research and what I find is that USCCA is a fraud. CCW Safe is the only company with a listed case they fought and one for someone using deadly force with a firearm. They fought and won. The hang ups are that if your charged, they don't cover for FLP or USCCA, but CCW Safe does. There is an attorneys for freedom that goes through the contracts for FLP and USCCA and he points out that you are not covered and think you may be. That's pretty scary! Can we get this topic going and get this resolved once and for all?

That chart is slightly out-of-date, but probably relatively correct. I’d suggest everyone confirm details, I see an error on the ACLDN part (and, in fairness, those were more recent changes).

Track record is probably a thing here.

I went with ACLDN. They are not insurance (which, if you’ve tried to collect on insurance, can be a timing issue). It’s a legal defense fund. If you “go downtown” after an “incident”, you can call the head guy directly at any hour and they say they will work quickly. Plus, there is a whole educational program on responding to an incident that looks a whole lot like Mas Ayoob’s classroom course….he is a Board Member. Disclosure: I’ve not taken the MAG classes, but read about them, so I could be incorrect. However, the ACDLN course can be admitted as evidence in a court case, along with extra suggested reading. Seems like a reasonable idea.

Frankly, if you decide to go elsewhere (and I’m no expert in this subject), I’d suggest you do a year with ACLDN just to review their educational course. Although the other courses can have the same stuff, I have no idea, then you’d be ok.

Again, track record seems to be key in this area.

So I called CCW Safe today and spoke to their Critical Incident Response Team Specialist and I was asking specifically about 2 things that I believe others are not being open or truthful to an extent about, meaning FLP and USCCA. First I am not a legal expert or advisor. I'm a plain citizen that was alarmed when I did my research on this type of protections (Insurance). I begin to look at FLP because of a YouTuber I watch and recommends it, Then seen USCCA and thought I would research the 2 and see who was better. Well that lead to finding out lots of things that sound a little off to me. Most shocking is how the average Joe misreads the agreements, terms or or contract. FLP has a section as does USCCA that says basically if your charged you get no coverage. Even taking a Plea deal to a lesser is considered a conviction and no coverage, in addition USCCA even says if your found guilty you need to pay them back all the money they spend on your defense!

In looking at this I dug deeper and could not find any known case of this type of protection being put into action or paid out except for 1 from CCW Safe for Mr. Maddox incident. Now I understand if its within the statute of limitations they cant talk about it. However CCW Safe has 2 more they can talk about shortly and will after other legal things are completed. They seem to put out the information and can easily prove they are legit. If this not allowed to be posted or needs done differently let me know, I do not want to violate any of the terms here.

I'm not advocating for or against any particular place, just sharing what I found out. I would absolutely like more to give their feedback so we can get the facts straight. There is a "Attorney's for Freedom" law firm that did youtube videos on FLP and USCCA and he went through their contracts and explained exactly how you are not getting what you think you are. Defense protection if you are charged. If I understand, it could be as silly as improper handling of a firearm, or discharging within city limits that could void your coverage. He also sells a protection plan but it is VERY limited. I encourage all of you look up and research Stephen Maddox CCW Safe incident and see if it lines up with what you have. I had to dig pretty good to find Mr. Maddox case. I can provide links to youtube videos of him if allowed.

I just want to be sure that when I pay for a service I get that service, as I'm sure you do as well. I will be signing up for CCW Safe either today or tomorrow. In my opinion they are the only ones what will provide services if you are charged, even found guilty, And if you are found guilty they will still provide civil defense also. Understandably your claim needs to be able to be argued with a non-frivolous expectation.

Welcome your thoughts.

I was due for renewal with CCW Safe and was seriously considering switching to USCCA... but after looking into it a bit, I decided to stay with CCW Safe.
