Duty to Inform at an Ohio OVI Checkpoint

Post by Col Duke »

Am I obligated to inform a police officer at an Ohio OVI checkpoint that I have a CCW and am armed?

Yes. Notify every officer you are addressed by during the stop, first words out of your mouth, to be certain of compliance. Even if you pass through there multiple times.
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

Per code, emphasis in bold by me.

2923.126 Duties of licensed individual.
-
If a licensee is the driver or an occupant of a motor vehicle that is stopped as the result of a traffic stop or a stop for another law enforcement purpose and if the licensee is transporting or has a loaded handgun in the motor vehicle at that time, the licensee shall promptly inform any law enforcement officer who approaches the vehicle while stopped that-

So that would fall under "for another law enforcement purpose".
Six months in Bosnian conflict in '98.
Two tours in Iraq '03-'04 & '05-'06
Currently deploying daily to toledo, oh! :)

Ok, thanks. The bit about "another law enforcement purpose" is the part I didn't consider.
