Invalidating driver's license?

Post by OhioPaints »

My wife went to renew her driver's license (she has a class A CDL). As part of the process, the local (Adams County) BMV punched holes in her current DL "to invalidate it" and gave her a printed piece of paper to serve as a DL until the new DL is mailed out.

Since we are required to have two state issued photo ID's when we carry, does that piece of paper (or the invalidated current license) meet the legal requirement for CHL carry?

(Oh, just to make things worse, a half hour later they called her and told her that some of the paperwork failed to reach Columbus and she currently has no legal DL until she comes back in again (a fifth trip) for them to try again. This new DL license process is a fiasco.)

The COMBINATION of the punched DL and the paper they issued (should have a photo on it) are considered your new DL until the actual card arrives.

This means that you need to carry ALL THREE ITEMS to be legal: the CHL, the punched DL AND that piece of paper.

The requirement to carry a second piece of ID while carrying concealed or in a vehicle ended in March.

That is correct. You either keep better notes or have a better memory than I do, or both. Just looked it up because I could not remember for sure. thanks
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!
