I always use ammo that contains "defense" in the name. Just in case
Carrying common factory loaded ammo (to me) just seems to be the smart move.
I used to hand load .45 acp. It was Jeff Cooper's favorite. It was a 230g flat nose FMJ loaded at a true 850fps.
I wouldn't carry it in public for self defense, because of over-penetration concerns.
It was a great hand load and extremely accurate.
