Still no guesses....am I gonna have to say what it is?

Here's another hint. It is about .50 caliber; and a single shot., and predates the beowulf by about 60 years.

German engineering was way ahead of the pack, wasn't it?

I'm pretty sure that's it. I don't recall seeing any pics with the barrel shroud, but that mount is very familiar looking. I think I also saw one at a gun show a long time ago.
