2019 Small Arms Firing School (video)
At age 12, my grandson Connor was finally old enough to attend the Small Arms Firing School at Camp Perry, near Port Clinton, Ohio.
This is a two day coarse. Cost is $50 for adults, $25 for juniors. You show up with ear plugs and safety glasses, the CMP supplies the rifle, ammo, and instruction. The U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) , some of whom are Olympians, teaches the 2 hour class in the base theatre. You are then transported to the range. You will be coached on the line by a USAMU member, or a member of other military rifle team members, or by a highly qualified CMP coach.
We stayed in the barracks for two nights at $14.60 a night. Cold Air conditioning! I needed 2 blankets.
A thank you to SSG Amanda Elsenboss, of the US Army Marksmanship Unit. She spent at least five minutes with me on the firing line, where I asked her to critique my dry fire training. And she did!
Special thanks to our coach Jim Stewart, who helped make the weekend for my grandson Connor a HUGE success.
