Well, there's always TDI - world-class training right in our own back yard!

Oh, and welcome to the OFCC forums!

A relatively comprehensive list of nationally recognized trainers with different philosophies and specialties, that aren't part of the big box training companies. (not saying the larger companies aren't worth your time - they're big for a reason, expect the NRA carry guard crap)

I am sadly not very well versed in what's out towards you, eddy883.

In terms of NE-Ohio, though:

Pushing further east from Rittman/Wadsworth ( Apex Shooting and Tactics, as you noted, as well as Chris Cernio's school, Cerino Training Group - http://www.chriscerinotraininggroup.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ), you'll come to NE-Ohio's treasure, the Alliance Police Training facility - https://alliancepolicetraining.com/-" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; located in Alliance, Ohio (about 2 hours east from your location as noted under your Forum Avatar).

AS pirateguy191 recommended, Commence Fire Training Academy ( http://www.commencefire.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) offers an excellent progression for novices/beginners to handgunnery and concealed-carry. They can literally take someone who has never handled a firearm before and over a half-dozen courses, not only have this individual meet the requirements to apply for his/her Ohio-CHL, but also make this individual safe and proficient in firearms handling, marksmanship, and manipulations. It's an absolutely GREAT place for a beginner to start, simply because they've got such a well-spaced/planned route for students to follow.

If you were my friend/family, I'd recommend that you start with Commence Fire, and that after you complete their Advanced Handgun 1 class, to then lateral-out to Apex Shooting and Tactic's "Combat Handgun" series, as well as the Alliance PD's "Handgun Sustainment" classes, before striking out further either with the numerous trainers hosted by the APD at their facility, or via the training resource that jeep45238 cited. :)
