Longer rifle ranges in Ohio

Post by captainstormy »

I'm wanting to do some shooting past the 100 yard mark this summer with my rifles. It's been a long time since I've done that. The last time I did it was on an uncles property but passed and his son sold that land to a developer so I can't shoot there anymore.

I'm in Columbus, so pretty much the whole state is within a two hour drive for me for the most part. But it would be nice if it wasn't quite that far. It doesn't have to be 1,000 yards at the moment. Only rifles I have currently are AKs, so 300-500 is plenty.

Bonus points if they let me use steel targets (either my own or have the targets set up already). I love the sound of lead hitting steel at long range.

Any thoughts?

New Philadelphia club has the longer ranges and one of their ranges they let you use steel.

Rayners Range - Blue Rock South of Zanesville 1000 yd

Briar Rabbit - South Zanesville
They do allow steel - can't tell the length, but I thought near 300 yd.

Totally useless, waste of space, irrelevant, sig.

http://www.lcfishandgame.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; has a 300 yd rifle range with steel targets in place for members. $40 a year for full access to the facilities.

http://www.rushcreeksportsmen.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; has a 300 yd range for members however is limited to how many members are permitted to be in the the club and if they don't put so many hours a year working for/at the club they are voted out.

Both are GREAT places with trap and sporting clays scheduled monthly or weekly.

I'm a member there. Great range. Main range goes out to 300, as does the utility range (my favorite) and their newest range goes out to 600. That's where we do full distance Appleseed events. :wink:

There are several other ranges but those are the longest ones.

If you can't find a closer range, I'd be willing to take you out there some day as my guest so you could check it out.

If you are on Facebook, you can look at this place, Thunder Valley Precision, in Kimbolton (Cambridge area). I've never shot there, but have heard of them from others.

I thought they had a web page, but couldn't get it to load.

Very kind offer, I appreciate that. There seem to be a couple of closer ones but if they don't work out for some reason I'll be sure to take you up on that.

Logan County Fish and Game might just be the perfect one for me. It's only about 45 minutes from my house even.

Yep. Have instructed there on a number of occasions as an Appleseed instructor. That covered range is nice but the cement is brutal on the elbows. :wink:

I shoot Service Rifle matches( stages at 200,300, and 600 yards) at these clubs:

Alliance Rifle Club, Malvern Oh. They have firing lines at 200,300,600,800, and 1000 yards. :shock: 8)
http://alliancerifleclub.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Solon Sportsman Association,Richmond Township, OH They shoot at 200,300, and 600 yards. 8)
http://solonsportsmen.org/index.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Of course, there is "Marksmanship Training Center, USA", aka Camp Perry (Port Clinton), Oh. 8) :) 8)
It is the largest rifle range on the PLANET! Firing points out to 1000 yards.
I like to promote there "Small Arms Firing School" (SAFS) http://thecmp.org/training-tech/small-a ... -training/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This is fired at 200 yards.You will learn a TON for only$45. THEY supply the rifle & ammo! 8) :)

Best regards.
